BIYF - 2021/2022 - No Frills

what tires are you using exactly? also, are you running tubes or tubeless? i've got tubeless terravail cannonball's on my commuter (they are basically durable casing gravel tires) and they've held up great! that said, i haven't done nearly as much crazy urban commuting as you have!

Schwalbe Marathon plus. Put ~4,000 miles on them so no regrets just pondering why i get flats at the end of their life, could be different factors

all tires are more prone to punctures/flats near EOL, combination of the tread wearing down and the flat breaker being abused for so long, nothing you can do except accept it as an early warning sign.

Flatted for the second week in a row, pulled a lot of glass out of the tire. Tread is worn down, plenty of big chunks out. Ordered three new Schwalbe marathon plus tires. Never clean and dry when I flat. What a PIA. Tomorrow is final miles for the year

Said to myself the other day, if warren doesn’t have a dyno hub with all his commuting, charging lights must be a part time job.

But i kinda figured your game was on point

Yup, the dynamo hub was a game changer. Used to have a pair of LightsInMotion Rando’s mounted and run one down and flip to the second. Got a long runtime from Medium setting but now with the hub and a high end headlight all that is history. Much brighter and vastly improved beam pattern ( also wired taillight of course ). Safety First!

My primary bike has one and im building up a wheelset for my base machine to have one as well.

Piece of mind of no charging or leaving lights behind is so worth it.
