Biggest loser

The scale agreed with me this morning. I'm still losing weight, but I'm curious to see how week two will go. Usually the first week is the most motivating as the water weight comes off, but I'm going to stick with the plan and eat clean all week and I've been having a small ~ 70 cal. treat each night. 8 pounds down so far and a lot more to go. Prepping ahead is the absolute key for me.

I'm a big fan of the concepts of motivational psychology.
not necessarily hype speeches, but conceptually where is the motivation, or lack of, coming from?

Knowing yourself is such a huge battle in losing weight.

Problem: I absolutely know that if I bring Reese's or Oreos into the house, they will be gone within 2 days regardless of the size of package.

Solution: Don't shop hungry, avoid the candy aisle, eliminate the temptation

Problem: I loathe the indoor trainer and treadmill

Solution: Streaming NFL or Devil's games helps make it slightly less awful.

I have NEVER enjoyed indoor recreation, ever. Until we got a Treadmill last year that utilizes online trainers and routines. I thought it was a gimmick until I started using it for Winter-bad-weather days, and found the automatic route changes to speed and incline are fantastic! Recently I stopped watching and mute the workouts, then just slip my iPad over the screen to watch what I want, but the "blind" speed/incline changes are still automatic. I'm keeping on this for nother 2-weeks then I'll split 50/50 with 5am trail riding.

Problem. My wife's idea of shopping.

So I have been following along since post #1 but I didn't want to seem like I was some martyr because I have not experienced the bounce back up in weight or loss of fitness over the past xx months/years. Aside from the last 2 weeks being down for the count with COVID, in fact I finished 2021 pretty strong as I achieved a goal at the end of December of riding 100 miles for the Winter solstice (yes on the road sorry).

That being said, as I read along and LOL (literally) at every other post, I know the feeling and have been down the road of many of those here since at one time in my life before I found cycling I was nearly 300 lbs (yes really). Last time at this year my fitness went into the crapper for almost 2 months due to lack of motivation and COVID and other stuff in my life. To fix this I found that I needed a target to motivate me and I convinced 3 of my other friends to ride our first Randonneuring event (125 miles).

To proactively prevent the same funk, we (4 of us) just signed up for this event in April 2022 (assuming COVID doesn't cancel it, or work doesn't prevent me from being ready). This would be my first Gravel/offroad 100 miler and I am already thinking WTF did I do. But it will be a good motivator to maintain and not gain weight, while continuing to build my fitness and overall well being.

In the meantime the last 2 weeks I have been recovering from COVID I lost 3.5lbs since I could not really eat or drink much. Now that I am feeling better I am more focused on cutting out too much of the crappy snacks, drinking more water and trying to fix my crap sleep schedule.

So I hope I can offer some perspective, motivation and a good dose of my usual sarcasm here while everyone gets more fit and less fat!

Sucks about the covid interruption. LLWH is a pretty awesome 100 miler. I did it a few years ago on a HT mtb as I didn't and still don't have a gravel bike. I know 25s would be ok, but my road bike has rim brakes. Trying to slow or stop a clyde on some of those descents is better left to disc brakes.

The dip in the beginning was my HRM dying. Luckily my headphones have one too so I had to switch to those for the rest of the ride. Now I got to figure out why my tickr was jumping all over the place.

Yeah i would not ride 100 miles on my MTB on purpose but I got a new gravel bike back in July for my 50th bday so it’s good to go for this event. I just hope the rider will be ! 🤪
