Beginners group ride

Unless you are just peddling down the road to get some ice cream, you don't want anything from Walmart.. no matter how "mountain ready" they may look. They are thrown together with cheap parts, check out this video:

Haha, my first "mountain" bike was a 1994 Nishiki Pueblo. Threw some Pararacer Smokes on it and thought I was a bad ass! Hit Harthshorn a few times with my cousin and noticed more and more noises till the frame eventually broke. Just cause it looks trail ready, doesn't mean it is lol

thats some old bike! are nishiki's legit mtb's? my friend who introduced me to 6mR rode a nishiki and now upgraded to a trek marlin 4. so nishiki's are considered walmart quality bikes?

if its looked over they will prob hold up. keep in mind that just " holding up" and "performing well" are two different things in this case. wouldn't recommend it for anything past a "i need a bike to ride exactly one time for the next 3 years" scenario. even for the casual rider who would ride the bike a handful of times during the year would benefit from a bike backed by an LBS or a nicer used bike just from the satisfaction during the user experience and the lack of a headache from dealing with a bigbox store bike issues.

thanks man! i will keep this in mind!

Nishiki's are probably better then the Walmart Huffy or Next brand bikes, but they are far from Trek, Giant, Cannondale, etc.

More than the frame, I would worry about the fork. Read the fine prints on those forks and even on the frame. They will say something along the lines of NOT INTENDED FOR TRAIL USE.

Even on the lower end suntour forks, it say only for light trail use.

Fuck dept./toy store bikes - For an incredible $999 !!!!!!

So brought the 10 year old dept store bike yesterday at 6mR and it held up quite nicely. Unless youre jumping 5 ft like seths bike hacks and red bull downhilling the dept store bike is fine on soil and short dips.

Were you with a group of 4 and one guy had no helmet? I may have passed you.
