Anyone a Corvette person?

I would say if you are not going vintage, then spend the extra bucks and go C6. Like everyone is saying, the extra money will more than pay off in performance. Just be prepared for the value to go way down before it goes back up. (See C4 prices🙂).

Meh, I'm not worried about resale. I'll sell it to @fidodie for half of what I paid and a sixxer of bud light lime.

Trust me, I'm 44 and have never, ever owned an automatic. I learned how to drive in my sisters 3 speed 81 camaro.
Its killing me.

She can learn how to drive a stick. A Corvette (seriously) is probably really easy to learn how to drive with all the torque.

I'm guessing an 11 to 14 Mustang GT convertible will be as much or more than an early C6. But it could be certified and have a warranty. Both are both fast and fun but they are different cars for sure. Not everyone is comfortable in a Corvette.

No Mustangs before 2011, please.

this is all i can think of right now

Lol- so true.

Walt have you tried convincing here to buy a 62 and learn how to drive stick?

I would definitely learn towards a c6 if I was going to spend the money for a corvette...You could also get a convertible mustang or camaro and bring the whole family along?

Yeah, a four seater something or other is also a consideration, specifically for the reason you mentioned

I agree with @vlkslvr almost 100%.

Avoid C4. And they will be cheap as hell even in great condition.

C5 is a nice ride. The interior is very much 90's Chevy Blazer but they drive nice, have enough power, and don't look terribly dated.

C6 is definitely not out of reach, will be a much improved interior, but will take much more searching. My buddy sold his 2007 C6 2LT with 60K miles in the spring for $17,500 and it was very clean.

Please don't buy retail red. Get a fun color, get some jean shorts, and head straight to dinner at 4pm for the $17.99 all you can eat special.

INSIDER TIP: Order water with lemon. Add some sugar packets and YOU'VE GOT FREE LEMONADE.
This made me LOL hard.

....coming up in a bleed bow-tie (GM) family and seeing my uncles owning Corvettes... I do love me some Chevys.... BUT DON'T DO IT!

Just hand me 8-10k and let me burn it in front of you... The best part of the vette is the motor and that is about it... They're ugly, played out, garbage...

I'm not sure what an alternative could be but definitely stay away from these overpriced piles of junk. In this vision of yours, are you thinking of taking a cruises with the wife on nice days with the top down? if so, there are plenty of better options for that. An older BMW 3 series... I'd even suggest a Porsche Boxter over a Vette... Or maybe a lexus IS or maybe you can find a deal on a Lex SC...

A friend of mine is a pure corvette guy, he has made a business of them for over twenty years. He offers full frame up resto's to checking out vehicles.

If you get serious and need someone to check the car out he can......for a small fee of course.

I realize this is the Internet, but how can you compare a 400hp 3000 pound Corvette to a, E46 or 225hp Boxster? Or worse a IS or SC? Vettes are popular for good reason. They are cheap (used), fast, and fun. And they are fairly reliable and an oil change is $30. I'm not a Corvette guy either, but when a guy is looking for an apple and you tell him to buy a tangerine, how the hell is that helpful?

Vettes suck.. nothing more to it than that..

One of our customers just acquired a '94 with only 30k on the ticker. Mint condition, except it was stored inside and mildly infested with mouse droppings. The original owner could not find anyone to pay for it. The guy that has it now did some landscaping in trade for the car.
Almost could not give it away.
We also had a 92 40k with manual trans, it was traded in. Same deal could not get anyone yo pay for it. We gave him almost nothing for the trade. It then sat on our used lot for months. I think it finally went to auction to get rid of it. Friggin worthless turds.

Until you try to race one with anything close to the cost.

Let’s look at Porches. You don’t start beating a Stingray with the Z51 package around the track until you get to the $200k GT3. Never mind a Z06, then you’ll need a $300k GT2 RS.

Yea, they sure do suck.

Wait - I must’ve missed the detail about Walter and his wife buying this to race... my bad...

I could’ve sworn he was looking for a nice classy vehicle to cruise around with the top down... i stand corrected...

But is we were talking about racing, fuk’n right buy a vette....
