Any scotch/whisky drinkers in here?

I want to take my future brother in law to a scotch bar as one of the bachelor "party" spots. Any in NJ?

My search has come across Le Malt in Colonia

are they allowed to call it bourbon if it is from michigan?

Maybe they just drive the barrel down in a Uhaul to a rest stop for a few minutes.

"Well, that's what New Holland has done; taken a 3-5 year whiskey from the MGP ricks and finished it in their Dragon's Milk Stout barrels for 3 months."

Nope, but it's a common misconception. "Kentucky straight bourbon" can only be made in the Bluegrass State, but a handful of other bourbon distilleries are sprinkled around the country. Among them, Tuthilltown Spirits in New York makes its own Hudson Baby Bourbon, which is aged for just three months, and A. Smith Bowman Distillery of Virginia makes, among other products, a yummy 90-proof small batch bourbon under its Virginia Gentleman label. As long as it meets the base criteria to be bourbon, it's bourbon, no matter where it's produced.

Wow, didn't know this thread was still going. House is dry right now except for some red wine and this bottle of Pisco Mistral. No clue what it is, but I'm hopped up on it right now while watching Deadpool. I need to hit the store and get back on the Laphraoig train.
did you like the Mistral? I didn't and ended up using it for Pisco sours
It lacked the depth I enjoy with my straight up stuff

NJ has always been lack luster in well known whisky bars, though there are many in NYC and Philly. I haven't been to Le Malt but seems like one of the premier spots nowadays. I used to go to the Whisky Guild event in Madison when I didn't have kids, but that was back in March. Local places which have a good stock are the Pluckemin Inn and Gladstone tavern, but they are more like boys clubs. For more fun, I'd try the Jockey Hollow Bar and Kitchen in Morristown

Not sure how it compares to other places as a scotch bar, but this place is super cool! My wife and I have had dinner upstairs and in the oyster bar, and we've hung out in the old timey bar and the bar down in the basement. Would definitely recommend it, although it's a bit pricey.

My grandfather and I were close like father and son... So my grandmother got me this for as a Xmas present and said it was his favorite.

I was thinking shots of this stuff but apparently after some internet searching it meant to be sipped and enjoyed.

Reading this post again and reminded me to finally give bourbon a try. I only recall drinking Jack, Beam and Turkey in college and regularly keep a decanter full of the Kirkland cheapo stuff for my father in law and friends. So the challenge here is for bourbon drinkers to help me build a half decent bourbon collection for under $500. Here's my first stab at a top few
- Widow Jane 8 year
- Four Rose Single barrel
- Blantons
- Bookers
- Taylor barrel proof
- Woodford white corn
- John Fitzgerald Larceny

can't seem to locate these nearby or are massively marked up
- Black Maple Hill Premium Small Batch
- WL Weller 12 yr
- Old Forester Birthday
- George T Stagg

Does anyone know if any bars nearby pour the Van Winkle 12yr?

awesome! we are going to Arthur's Steakhouse then Morristown for late drinks. We will check out Jockey Hollow. Thanks! That didn't come up on my yelp research
