Allamuchy North Conditions

I got into Allamuchy today, from the Earthworm parking lot. Knocked out everything along the route marked in Purple, probably 20 something issues.

Does anyone know a POC at the Boy Scouts camp? Some of these trails can be accessed so much more easily from the BS Camp's roads if I had permission to use them.

Pm or text me with a time

I did a 4 hour session in Allamuchy North today. I didn't cover a lot of ground but the few clearings I did were time consuming. Part A was from the tiny lot just off 517. A big one on the tip of the tit of switchback loop (orange) that also reached over to block the very bottom of "unblazed". I searched the immediate area for another very large target but it looks like that was cleared already. For Part B, I moved over to the Tranquility lot and went right uphill on Waterloo/517 trail (white), where I encountered 2 big issues. By the time I got to the end of that, I was pretty gobsmacked and called it a day.

Anyone wanna lend a hand as a "Swamper" on Sunday? Just need one person.. I'm gonna do a loop from the tranquility lot, roughly 11am. Roughly 3-4hrs depending on how things go.. Here's the target area. Lmk

Maybe I’ll drive down there tomorrow. Would be nice to not be lugging a saw around for once. Had a moderate case of dehydration yesterday, so as long as I feel good enough.

Should not do that today. Would’ve been a hour drive each way anyway. Good luck though!

I had a big mission planned today, from the Tranquility lot. But I only managed to get this one and another couple before my saw completely malfunctioned. I had to abort the mission. Getting that saw serviced at Kenvil Power Mower isn't an overnight thing unfortunately. I still have the MS260, the mid-sized saw, but it's extra weight is limiting for the big missions. Stay tuned.

I was hoping to see you out there today. I rode though the target zone and more and it wasn’t crazy but definitely stuff that needs tending to. I appreciate all of your efforts out there!

Wow! Herculean effort for sure.

I'm no tree expert, but from the sounds it was making it appears that it's gonna fall any minute now. I can't upload a video, but here's it's location. Keep an ear out for it and be careful. It's leaning downslope, right towards the trail. I'm skittish around stuff like that, as a few years back a huge tree fell right in front of a friend in the West Milford area. Had we been going just a bit faster, one of us would have been crushed.

Also, Orange trail (the lower switchback that parallels Stuyvesant) was very overgrown. I wish I had a hedge trimmer. It would be great to help clear that out.

Today was an exhausting 4hr mission into Allamuchy North from the Tranquility lot. We went counterclockwise along the route marked in purple on the attached screenshot. None of the removals were particularly remarkable, enough to take pics of anyway. The exhausting part was carting around the heavier MS260 saw, since my lighter saw (MS192) is in the shop. It's around 8lbs heavier, with extra weight coming from the extra gas/bar oil, etc. The advantage of the MS260 is it's power. When you're actually cutting, things go quicker. But overall, it's weight can get very fatiguing. I had the assistance or Erin H., who totally kicked ass today. I was at least able to pawn off some weight into his pack. Thanks Erin!!

Good job! Nice that you have backup swamper since our schedules haven't been aligning.

I saw you cleared the white trail all the way up.
Obviously a huge and much appreciated effort.
Thanks! Yeah, they were big ones. There's at least 2 more big cutting sessions left to catch up in the park. (See screenshot). Awaiting the return of my smaller saw from the shop to do it, due any day now. Hopefully knock it out within the next week or so, weather dependent. As always, please help me track targets!
