Anyone know about an accident that occurred in the last month where a mountain biker crashed at Allaire and got a massive head injury and needed to be airlifted out? The guy happens to be a customer of mine and I saw him a couple weeks after the accident. He had a major dent in his forehead, still scabby and oozing puss. I asked him what happened and he said he was riding near dusk and hit a rock. I saw him again today and he's got some nasty scars. I asked him if he had learned anything from it and he said, "Yeah, next time have lights!" I wanted him to say, "Yeah, next time wear a helmet!" but no such luck. Dummies like him make us look bad, as well as our sport because it makes it seem much more dangerous than it is. If you see people on the trail not wearing lids, kindly give them sh!t before they ruin it for everyone.

Wow, I cant believe folks dont wear helmets when they ride. Some men you just cant teach.

Some people are just too cool for helmets. We had to kick someone out of our group of riders who just won't wear a helmet. We told him he has the right to ride where ever he wants without a helmet but he just can't ride with us.

coming from motocross it's still a weird feeling to not wear a full face .... couldn't imagine not wearing one at all and crankin

huh????

1) Not wearing a helmet is not a smart thing to do.

2) A rock at Allaire? Really?🙄
I can't believe I'm the first person to question this.

excellent point. please outline said location on a map so that we can all go take pictures with it. although i call shenanigans.

Not trying to negate his injury...just trying to figure out where it could have happened. Hopefully he learned from this and will wear a lid from now on. I saw a ton of folks riding without helmets today, it's sad really.

I once forgot to bring a helmet and rode anyway, I hated the ride because I was so damn nervous.

Maybe it was a root? I heard it right from the guy who knocked himself out on it, so maybe he doesn't remember exactly. I'm surprised he remembers his name having seen the lump on his head.

I don't get it - and I've kind of stopped trying. I always ask ppl I see that aren't wearing one - "hey, where's your helmet?" but it never seems to help - always get one of the canned answers. I typically follow up by saying something like "well, its your decision, but it does potentially affect the trail staying open for everyone."

On my way home from 6 mile saturday, I saw a bunch of the tow path cruiser set without helmets...and then, on my way up Millstone River Road, I saw a roadie (with proper shorts, jersey, and shoes - so not just a guy on a road bike, but someone into it enough to at least buy some gear) with no helmet?!?! That's a pretty busy, twisty, and fast moving piece of road. Jeez !

I rode the Sussex Branch Trail on Friday afternoon. Many riders out wearing helmets, but helmets dont do much when you do the following.

Wear them backwards
Wear them like a guido wears his fitted to a club
Hangs off an ear
Strapped onto your handle bars
BACKWARDS!!!!

How dumb can one be to wear a helmet backwards! I saw about 3 people riding with this problem. I just cranked up my Jason Aldean on my ipod and kept riding.

PS... if I have one more person ask if the carbon fibre on my fork is real I think I will have to beat them.

helmets

for mtb, what's the best kind of helmet, as I'm looking to pixk up an extra.

i like the retro type that some bmx wear, is that good?

most times i buy helmets, with the sun visor thingy, but throw it out

what kind of helmet looks cool (like your know how to mtb) and protects you from going from animal to vegatable???

dont say a $300 giro atmos is good for mtb, or a leather retro track helmet, i mean a mtb specific noggin saver
