Accident at Mills Reservation

YIKES! Reminds me of one section of trail up at Jim Thorpe called the "strip mines". The trail followed the edge of one of the mines and while most of it was safe, certain sections of it had a severe "consequence of failure" quotient. At least 100 feet to fall, assuming you didn't get impaled by a tree first (you couldn't really see the bottom from the trail). While a few guys rode it (Jay DeJesus), the rest of us walked those sections. This was 20 years ago and I understand the entire trail network up there is different due to some forestry activity or something.

I feel for the family.

@axcxnj I think you are correct. The arrow on the right is where I believed it to be based on the chopper vid. That part of the trail is either really bumpy basalt rock or erosion with big roots, both of which add to the risk factor. In between the two arrows there is that 90 deg turn which would also mean a big drop if one were to overcooked it.

Us *locals know that turn very well. It would be a roght hand turn and comes up quick after a little 4ft roller as you're headed back to the far lot. If you aren't aware of it or are going too fast it could get you.

*I'm no longer a local

We've had a spate of bad cycling accidents around here recently. (Maybe it isn't just Essex County...) I always say it's better to be safe and get off the bike.... I wonder how the county will respond. Maybe they'll just pave the entire res, and put lights every ten feet like hilltop...
