Voting takes place today to ban smoking on all casino floors. How do you guys feel about this?

I'm not a smoker, but on occasion, I do enjoy a cigar.

i'm not a smoker, and it's been about 4 years since i enjoyed the occasional cigar. however, i don't think smoking should be banned in the casinos. even more, i think they should legalize russian roulette.

All with you on the Russian roulette, but only if it's with a full chamber.

I dont think they should ban smoking in the casinos, I think they should profit from it. They should start taking wagers on when the 75 y/o guy at the table who has been smoking for 60 years will shit his lung out.

it is nice going into a bar and not coming out smelling like an ash tray, BUT I don't know in the casinos, with how much open space there is, if it makes that much of a difference. What will the hot little numbers with the trays sell with out cancer sticks?

Smoking Ban

I was smoking over a pack a day for ten years. I quit last summer when I bought my first bike. Then, and now, I think everyone has a right to clean air. I support the ban. What I don't like is the demonization of smokers. It's a fierce addiction and if people understood a bit more they might give them some space too. Additionally, in my opinion, banning smoking in public places helps prevent relapse for those who have quit, and helps to curtail the creation of addiction.

i'm all about the ban. i like my lungs, and i also like not smelling like crap after a night out. i swear that being in a smoke-filled bar makes for a worse hangover too.

i think of it this way:
the bi-product of a smoking habit is second-hand smoke. the smoke gets in my clothes, hair and lungs. i like to drink beer. the bi-product of my habit is urine. if you choose to smoke by me, i will start drinking beer and pee on you.

i think that helps big time. i had an old-roommate who used to smoke like crazy, and the minute NYC went smoke-free, he had much fewer relapses, especially in the winter months when he didn't want to stand outside.

btw - congrats on quitting - especially after 10 years... i bet the longer you smoke the harder it is to quit.

Thanks. Yes, it only gets harder both mentally and physically. Nicotine is a vicious substance.

I smoke, which I know is not a good thing, and it's alot harder to quit then I thought. I quit for like 3 years and then had a relapse and became a full smoker again which is not helping my mt. biking on the really tough climbs. I support the smoking ban for AC. I actually like coming home from the bars or clubs and not having everything that I had on smell like shit. I don't smoke in my car or my house for just that reason. Maybe this is the smoker in me coming out when I say this but maybe there should be a smoking room in the casino that is completely closed off from the rest of the floor and people can smoke and gamble without effecting the non smokers.

Just my 2 cents

I totally agree with giving smokers space, especially in bars and casinos because it's so social. They're currently treated like criminals, freezing their asses off in front of some ashtray at the door. It isn't right because people don't understand.

I'm totally for it. I've only been to AC twice, both times were after the first smoking ban, where smoking is only allowed in designated areas. Even then, as soon as you get near those areas, it's like hell for me. The smell of smoke makes my stomach hurt, my eyes water, and gives me a headache if I'm around it for more than 5 minutes. I was at the casinos in CT a few years back and I could only stay inside long enough to walk from one side to the other. Totally unbearable.

Curious. Have you ever committed a crime and been subject to nothing more than standing in the cold in front of an ash tray? I assume this wasn't North Korea or anything.

I'm not sure I'm following the logical leap of your first sentence. Since a setting is social, we should give people space to smoke? I'm pretty sure that's not a good correlation to go with. How does social translate into smoking freedom?

For the record I don't smoke and I'm against the government telling any business what it can do in this regard.

Do you really think I'm going to have a dialogue with a guy that doesn't know me but makes wise comments about me and North Korea? Come on man...

I take it that you have nothing to support that silly contention about the criminals then?

Listen, I don't know anything about you. But your post is silly. Smoking is a choice, or at least it was when you started. If you're cold because you have to go outside, you can choose to go elsewhere, or not smoke. Nobody is forcing you to go to AC, or to smoke.

I think smoking is simply dumb. Forcing others to endure your smoking habit is rude and inconsiderate.
