July 1 - that unfortunately may be my only entry. Just barely clocked in at a few seconds over an hour.
I had planned on doing a road ride, but a FB post lured me to a group ride at Neshaminy, with the promise of doing the "normal" lap in reverse - something I had never done before. Mainly because a number of the descents become super challenging as climbs. But now I have an ebike! So while the rest of the group was on normal bikes, I hung in the back and cruised, only really putting out efforts for the technical climbs. Good ride and a lot of fun.
However, we finished and I still needed at least 15 min of riding time to get an hour in. And a few more of the group still wanted to ride, so we went back in, this time for a normal lap. Everything was going fine until I sent one of the high speed drops, blitzed over a bridge and launched the rise over the gravel utility road. And landing on a large rock that sent the bike out from under me, causing me to land hard on my right side. I also smacked my helmet onto the ground pretty good, but no headache and no real damage to the helmet.
And I somehow shattered the screen on my Wahoo Bolt, but it continued recording the ride.
I assessed the situation, the rider behind me tried to do triage, but I was more or less ok. But really bruised and battered. A slow pedal back to the van and to get the bike inside before I started to stiffen up. Got home, unloaded everything quickly as I could and started dinner.
Right now as I type this, I have a pretty good suspicion I have some bruised ribs. Deep breaths and coughs are not pleasant. Thanks to kidney stones (and a lifetime of crashing my bikes), my tolerance for pain is somewhat skewed and it's not easy for me to gauge how badly I'm hurt, but I don't think there's any serious damage. That said, I am not confident I'll be able to ride much in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, this also really puts a damper on my Sheduro preparation.
Bike before the ride - I'm not sure how the Wahoo took the brunt of the impact, but otherwise I don't see any bad scraps on the bike here at home.
Everyone looking happy during the backwards loop:
Regarding the bike setup, at least when I sent the drop at speed, I used nearly all of the fork travel, so I suppose the setup isn't far off.
