2015 Trail Skiing Thread

Mark and I went to High Point on Monday. After Sunday's snow, the trails were perfect. Freshly groomed with a layer of fresh powder. We were the only ones out there and the afternoon light made for amazing views. Looking forward to getting a few inches in Monmouth County tomorrow which hopefully means some full-moon night skiing on Thursday or Friday night at Thompson. Hanging on to winter.....

By the way, anyone know what they are doing with all the construction around lake surprise?

Just rebuilding the dam or something more?

Looks like just rebuilding the dam but dam does It look over engineered. They have some heavy duty equipment but I think they are driving one piling every other day. Def. a low bid job. They started around the middle of summer.

Mooch Back Bowls

So due to having the worst tachycardia event in my life on the way back from ST #1 I'm baggin any triple park action for now. Instead I'm gonna due an off piste mega mooch on Saturday from Tranquility gate at 8am. I'm just heading up and working the topo til I get bored, hungry or have another mini stroke. Survival blanket, lighter and duct tape are suggested bring alongs:popcorn:

Surfs up, enjoyed some fresh pow at Wangchung today. The downhills where so much fun, a lot of float...but dem uphills doe. There is about 5" of fresh, plus some wet stuff beneath it. I'm glad I waxed up before I went out, with the temp dropping conditions are perfect for slop freezing on the bottom of your skis. I only had some slush freeze on my skis once when I ski'd through a stream. Fresh snow was on top and I thought the stream was frozen...it wasn't. Once I got to the other side my wet skis attracted snow like a magnet.

Also, I can say Watchung is not bike-able right now, not even for FB's. Too much soft snow, maybe later Saturday after hikers/snow shoer's/xc skiers pack the snow down.

Alec, if your around I'm gonna hit the Res tomorrow morn at 8am.

Nice line Iggs, but your tree crossing skills are a lil unorthodox. Also, wiping ENTIRE ski liberally with Armorall helps with sketchy/sticky snow........so I've re-waxed and JB Quik'd a few of my lam shots and am ready for Saturday @ the Mooch. Should be a nice settled 8" up on top making for some prime conditions in the am:popcorn:

Thanks for the invite iggs but gotta work

Thinking of picking up a headlamp and doing a night session tonight if you are up for a double. I think it's nearly a full moon

Can't make tonight but the moonlight does illuminate the snow well, you may be able to go lampless. Downhills are more fun in the dark😀

Just did the Sourlands pipeline. The main trail up is ok to ski. This snow is like flour so it's not the fastest. If you take your DH skis or snowboard out take the steeper lines or else you'll stall out. A quick outing but still real fun.

Today was SICK. Rt 517 side of the park is all 18-24" deep. Managed some DH's that were at least as long as a run at Shawnee and only went down twice in 3 hrs. Y'all missed out BIGTIME!!

Brett, so many trails...so little time. I was out yesterday in Watchung, the snow was great for BC exploring...soft and deep. I took downhills that I have never attempted, just going at stuff aggressively.

I'd like to say I nailed this downhill but I wiped out at the bottom. There is actually a small stream at the bottom, luckily I landed on the other side of it. I would post the picture but it looks like I'll need a lesson in how to do that. These computer software upgrades really fuck us old guys up...holy shit.

I'm having a hard time with the upgrade as well. Speaking of streams, what and pain!! Keep skis on and risk the dreaded water on ski or punch out and walk thru hip deep snow?? The next couple of weeks are gonna be tough working water crossings into a route......

DP Outlaw Loppet goin out sometime Monday. Actually saw someone all suited up, tryin to ride SSP this am......uh, CONDITIONS REPORT!! AINT HAPPENIN!! 12-14" base everywhere. Cold temps and dustings of snow comin so coming weekend looks skiable

Is there still any snow on the trails? Looks like we may get some fresh snow tomorrow
i'm a few miles from most of the major players in the NW corner of the state (mooch, DP, stephens, etc)- i also live at the base of a mountain. on the SE side, the snow is pretty much gone. like, zero. however, on the NW side, there is still a solid 8"-10" on the ground. i'm planning on getting out one last time saturday am...
