2015 Garden Thread

Here is a pic of the 2 potato towers. Now, we wait until the plants die and will see what they've produced!

The cucumbers are growing well too in this tower!

I didn't plant carrots this year... They are remains from last year! The tomatoes are the best, they are super sweet!

This is such a hanging curve ball I'm just gonna watch it go by and do nothing.

Haha are you jabbing me for not just looking it up? Or is it something else going over my head?

As soon as I hit send I thought why didn't I just google it.

While I was away at the Stewart 45 this weekend...picked this yesterday.

I had to give up the garden here, due to lack of sun. The house is in a valley and the back yard only gets full sun for about 3 hours. I tried tomato's, green peppers, cucumbers, pole beans ( they did well) Then the critters would climb in or under the fence. Ground hogs, Deer, Squirrel, chip munks. Nothing we grew was worth the effort or expense.

So here is whats left of the garden experiment, Carribean hot peppers in a pot on the patio. These are awesome in a stirfry! The deer still nibble them. ugh

Beans, peppers and lettuce are pretty bomb proof if you contain the deer and vermin. Try lettuce and arugula in the fall when the temps cool

I tried for 7 yrs. Fencing has been removed, and now just a memory. The varmit and lack of sun exposure won. I give up. Maybe if i move, will give it a try.

Do you spray? First year we're seeing fruit after 5 years, but they are smaller than golf balls and have leaf curl

i meant to spray, but didn't - they are full size peaches! we'll cut out the bad stuff, and make cobbler.
also have pears - 1 of 4 trees flowered/fruited this year. hard pruning.
cherries, blueberries did great. grapes are coming on strong.

Not even going there. Trust me it went way beyond that, and still could. Live and let live. All it takes is someone calling in about animal abuse and your inside looking out. Rats have more rights than humans it seems...

Starting my fall broccoli and kale. Will also try peas (again), spinach, and swiss chard. Bought some buckets to try a different approach with carrots (didn't work so well last year) and parsnips.
