2013/2014 XC Ski Thread

Got up to High Point this morning. There were some bare spots, but overall pretty good. Amazing weather, too warm if anything. Today was probably the last day for it for a while though. It was mostly mush by the time we left around noon.

as you all probably guessed most of Watchung was bare except for some short segments in the valley by the brook.

Still a nice day for a hike

Hi all,
Just looking for info from Iggy to see if they will be setting tracks at Thompson Park today. We are thinking of heading up there tomorrow.

they are grooming at minnewask, probably gonna head to new paltz in the morning to dance on my skate ski's...does anyone else want to dance?

Tempting, but I have never xc skied and I got 30 year old gear I haven't tried yet. I'm going to try something local today to try it

What are my best options for non-skate, with scenic views, @ sub-2hr drive?

come to minnewaska with me in the morning bitch, I'll drive. the place has great views and its just under 2hrs from my house. they set classic tracks and have a skating lane. i believe a trail pass is $6.

Ah, so skate and classic can peacefully coexist...interesting.
Might take you up on that.

Minni is great for views and the grooming holds the snow longer. I wish I could go tomorrow, but I have some morning commitments. I will probably ski the botanical gardens at Ringwood some time after 11:00. County golf course in my hood was ideal today!!

Got in close to 3hrs at Watchung Reservation. The popular trails around the lake where tracked in with hikers, snow shoe's and xc skiers. About 1/3 of the trails I had to break trail on. I was glad to see my car at the end of the loop.

Luke, its ok to go xc ski on a golf course. They only say no if u ask permission.

Breaking trail.

Snow was made for ski's, I found Jim's fat bike track.

Luke, your welcome to road trip with me and Woody to Minnewaska. I'll be on skate skis but I can give u and woody some pointers on classic style.

Thompson Park was tracked today and in great shape. Very, very windy, but in fine shape. I know it is not as exciting or scenic as Minni, BUT it is free and close for lots of the folks in the middle.

Have fun tomorrow. I think we are going to bust out the snowshoes.

There is 10 inches of snow at Hartshorne I was breaking trail today but should be great tomorrow. I'll be out there about noon
