I did not see a thread started, so I will get things going on Jan 1. There have been a lot of people on this forum training, dieting and making riding their bikes a regular part of their life.

What are your goals for 2010, and how did you do in 2009?
:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

I guess I'll start.

2009: rode outdoors 227 days (I do not count the trainer)
2460 miles on the road bike (I do not count the trainer)
291 hours on my mountain bike, cross bike or bikes without computers
21 races (10 XC, 2 SD, 8 CX, 1 stage race)
50 hours trail building and maintenance
New things: Raced Cross, did a somersault lemans start, made some videos.

2010: Still not sure about race goals, but I hope to continue to build more trails, take pictures, make video and try not to get too old too fast.🙂

2009
Dug the bike out again after about a 15 year drought
Been riding more and working on endurance
3 hours trail maintenance

2010
Looking to get in 1 race
a bunch of TM
Would like to be able to keep up with at least one other rider on group rides 😀

I had simple goals for 2009: Ride more, and ride in new places.

In 2009 went to one new park one time: CR. I bought a road bike which allowed more saddle time. Also took part in my one and only TM session. Overall, I rode much less than I wanted to. June-July was one of those periods of time where life takes a complete u turn and a family member was lost. Other priorities took the front seat.

My 2010 goals are the same plus one or two charity centuries. It will be a busy year (getting married, buying a house) but I hope to ride more than I have, and spend some more time doing TM.

Goals for '10? I'll start with not getting lapped by Harlan Price, anything above that is a bonus😉

-Jim.

2009 Highlights
1. Plattekill first race of the season - 1st Place (My first Cat 1 Win)
2. Windham Nationals - 2nd Place (My first Nationals Podium Cat 1)
3. Plattekill Series NY Championship - 3rd Place (I won the championship in 2008 but with the class changes this year the competition was fierce.)

2010 Goals
1. Race the entire Gravity East Series.
2. Reclaim the Plattekill Series NY State Championship.
3. Get faster - go PRO - and get a top 10 before I hit 40. (Only 2 seasons left to get it done.)

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

My key ones for this year:
-400 hours riding
-Complete 2 x 24 hour races solo (which ones still being determined)
-Enjoy riding (mtb, road and cross) in as many different places and as often as possible!

2009
Dug the bike out again after about a 15 year drought
Been riding more and working on endurance
3 hours trail maintenance

2010
Looking to get in 1 race
a bunch of TM

Keep doing what your doing and you will be at the front of the packs by summer.

As for myself...

I started riding in 08 and in 09 I started riding with a mindset of racing. Unfortunately, i need to learn things the hard way and did not train very efficiently. I was still able to win my first two races in Cat 3. Then moved up to Cat 2 and got whooped up on....at least at first. By the end of the season I was a middle of the pack Cat 2 racer and was able to finish 4th at Ringwood.
All in all I am happy with the way my first year of racing went down.
Ive made a ton of friends (not just in racing, but just riding period). Its truly a privilege to be a part of such a cool community.

And to copy Jim a little, here is my favorite pic of 09... (thanks Luke.... You should get some kind of award or something for the pics you take....)

As for 2010, I'm going to start in Cat 2 and try to podium every race.
Id like to race the entire H2H Series, the SSapalooza. DH40, and 24 HOA.
Maybe some MASS races too.

And most importantly, I am going to have tons of fun, and make sure I dont let racing get in the way of enjoying riding my bike.

Now if you'll excuse me, im going to go for a nice and easy slow ride...

2000 + 9

Although my accomplishments might be meager compared to others on this site, I am still proud of how much I improved over the past year. This is my second year on a mountain bike and I have been loving every minute of it, especially all the great people I have had the opportunity to ride with.

2009

-59 trail rides. (March-Nov 11th)

-My first race. (ringwood leafblower)

2010
I hope to continue on my road to recovery and build up strength in my leg so that I can get back on the trails ASAP!:getsome:

well few years ago i was told that i had with type 2 diabetes and way over weight so i decided to join the gym.. well it was a waste of money.. so in 08 i bought a road bike and it helped somewhat but i needed more so in 09 i bought a mountain bike and i found out quick that 20 miles on the road is like 7 miles on the trail .. i needed to burn fat and loose weight. my doctor told me if i loose 50 lbs there is a good chance that i would be off my diabetes meds.. i need that.. so for 2010 i want to loose 50 lbs.

my yearly goals are taken care of early in the season...

2009 goal: Finish 2009 Iditarod Trail Invitational 350 mile race, held end of Feb, beginning of March. Did it. Barely. Didn't ride half as much as I wanted to all year long though.

2010 goal: Be in better shape and be better prepared for 2010 ITI, actually be somewhat competitive. I think I'm there on both accounts. Preparedness, since I'm no longer a race rookie, is about 200% improved from my 2009 bid.

I suppose I can add: Get in excellent physical condition and get all gear squared away to finish 2011 ITI 1100 mile race.

so for 2010 i want to loose 50 lbs.

You are in the right mindset, absorb yourself in cycling and the community and it will be possible. Be patient "CYCLING" as I have witnessed has saved many from debilitating disease, dependency and mental health. Good luck with hitting your goals...

2009:
-Started working at a bike shop
-Joined the MTBNJ team
-Started off blazing but had an f-load of mechanicals
-Accidentally crushed all but one of the cat 1 16-29 field at the DH40
-Bumped up to cat 1
-won the state championship title
-won overall in H2h
-did work w/ the team at the 24hoa
-sucked like hell at cyclocross

2010:
-I'm just hoping i get on my bike again...

same here.

in 2009 - I did 4 races - DH40, SSPalooza, Lewis Morris Challenge and Woods Hollow (Tatum Park - Monmouth County).

in 2009 I have become a much stronger rider/ much better shape. example - in 2008 I did the Woods Hollow race Beginner race on a geared bike in 46 minutes (i.e., 2 laps at 23 minutes each); in 2009 I did the same race in Sport on a singlespeed in 1 hour (i.e., 3 laps at 20 minute each). one more lap - 3 minutes less each lap. I know I aint turning pro anytime soon - but Im proud of the improvement nonetheless.

goals for 2010: (1) continue to improve (2) do same 4 races; (3) kill my times from last year.

(1) singlespeedapoolza - did this race the same week I bought by SS. so my goal of killing my time from last year should be quite easy.

(2) DH40 - finish

(3) Woods Hollow: 55 minutes.

(4) Lewis Morris Challenge - got 4th in my age group. getting a medal would be nice 🙂. Otherwise beating my 2009 time would be fine.

09'...
entered my first race,(gravity series, indy cross, intro men senior)
took 2nd in my first race,
rode in vermont for the first time!...and with my uncle which made it better,
rode @8 new parks,
took 3rd in my 2nd race,(gravity series, indy cross last race of the season)
got better gear for my bike and me,
met new people to ride with!
10'...
enter every gravity series race,
place in the amateur category in a gravity series race,
enter some dh races,
enter some xc races,(still debating),
meet more new people on the trails,
ride more new places in more states!!
upgrade my bike!
AND NOT BREAK ANY BONES AND BE OUT FOR 6 WEEKS!!!!!!:getsome:

i've basically got the same goal set as last year: ride more, have fun. i've found that if i do those things everything else gets taken care of. that said, in that subset of two there are a few things that i hope happen:

get over 4,000 miles
do my first century
do more rides with the team
not ride all of lap two of the SS-a-palooza with cramped legs

do my first century

Go for it Jake!! Centuries are 100% mental. If you can ride at a pace that allows you to do 3+ hours, you can get the rest in, just bring more food and bottles when you leave!! And go SLOW!! The century I did on Friday was at a 15.5 mph average😀

2009 for me started just like Jshort's plan for 2010. After having some decent Cat 2 finishes in 2008, I wanted to try and get some podiums for 2009. As most of you know, it worked out better than I could have imagined.

2010. I honestly dont have much of a plan yet. I know I have to get married at some point, but that planning is going as well as my Cat 1 training program.

Things that I want to acomplish in 2010.....
Weight loss....I know im too heavy. Despite coming down from a high of nearly 290lbs, the current 200 im at is not exceptable. Especially if I want to do anything more than just show up at a cat 1 race. My lightest I have ever got down to was 192 in my adult life. That was in the gym only and eating basiclly nothing for dinner. Now that I share my living space with someone, eating has become harder for me. I used to live in the middle of nowhere and have nothing to eat in my house. Made it easy to stick to my diet. Little harder now. So my main goal is to get my food intake under better control. Not that I dont watch what I eat as it is, but I need to be more strict. My goal is to get to at least 185. For me, that would be an amazing feat.

Training...Get my training more organized. Last year I had did nothing other than: Go to race location with map, pre-ride course as fast as I could, show up on race day and repeat. That and just ride my bike when I could. Nothing very organized. I feel it worked good for what I was doing. Im trying to make my rides longer timewise. Trying to keep track of my time spent on the bike and in the gym each week. 16 hours of daylight per week right now kinda sucks, but things could be worse.

Racing....I planing on doing the races the I enjoyed last year. Waywayanda, lewmo, ksvp, ringwood, jungle, dh40, ssap....everything else is "we'll see" No goals or expectations for racing. The two rides I have done with Norm in the past few months have given me a look into what its going to be like, and its going to hurt, alot. Still though....lofty goal? I dont know, maybe a top 10 at a race? I currently feel as unsure about racing as the day I showed up at lewmo for my first cat 3 race. But I do feel that I have reached a major fork in the road. My current level of fitness has gotten my to where I am. My effort on my bike last year was probably equally as hard as I worked out in the gym in 2007-2008. For a guy who used to wear 44 pants, I have been satisfied with the fact that I have stayed within 10 lbs for the past 4 years. Now I will have to push myself into an unknown territory. We'll see if I can do it. On top of this extra effort, I have like 400 house projects to work on. But hey, I planned my wedding around bike races...so im commited! 😀

Bikes...I have no idea what bike I will be racing with next year. I did just pick up a karate monkey SS. So far I love it. Looking forward to doing alot of miles via SS this year.

dam, maybe I should have just started a training thread hahahaha.
