Not in a rush but the wife and I are considering relocating the family down south. Looking in the Asheville, Charlotte, Greeneville area. Quality of life is important which includes keeping the kids doing outdoor things, the wife close to conveniences and myself close to some outdoor activities, trails and mountains.
School is important so and so is $. Looki g for a growing area with affordable taxes. Smart me says between Charlotte and Greeneville in SC. Not so smart me is selfishly thinking Brevard to Asheville. I love where I live now but I hate the commute and the hectic work life. Oh, and cost of living sucks. Anyone have any thoughts? TIA.

My wife had a lot of work in the charlotte area a bunch of years back. We were north, up by the lake in Concord. Stayed at the same place all the time.
I also have a friend that lives on Lk Norman. There was always so much to do between golf, bike, water stuff, the speedway events, fishing, whitewater center (i never made it there) huge amount of kid friendly paths - my kid wasn't at an age to actually get out and run around, so experienced none of that stuff. Plus it isn't far from a good city,
and Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham are not that far. Fun mix of people too - lots of relocated folk, some from the north, some from the south.
@Pearl is the expert now, but I really enjoyed the people i met during my short stays - always friendly.

good luck with the search - your talents travel well, so you'll be set anywhere ya go.
very excited for you!

Would you consider Florida ? All my family is there. My cousins went to elementary- college. Florida has some great schools/ colleges

Greenville is really cool these days. I grew up in Columbia but if I ever moved back down there it would either be Greenville or maybe Charleston. I mean Asheville has been amazing every time I’ve visited but I know nothing about quality of life there.

Wife and I have similar idea. We looked around two years ago while my son was checking out University of North Carolina. Think I preferred the Lake Norman área over the Raleigh Durham area. Schools were not a factor or for us as both are in college. Definitely dig the outdoors vibe in the area. I hit up the trails at the whitewater center and they were cool. Would like to check out Asheville soon, but as you mentioned that will be pricier. Might be a little cooler in the mountains as my wife is not that excited about hotter summers.

My in laws moved down to Denver NC about two years ago and we have been visiting them every Xmas and Easter every year since. That area is about 20 minutes north of Charlotte but 2 ish hours from Ashville. Really nice area but its exploding with development. Super convenient for shopping and such. Dont know about the school systems. As for outdoor activities. The US white water teams trains nearby at the US National White Water Center which also has MTB trails. As for cost of living well I did look into it and NC is ranked 17th in COL. If you just want to bike then Ashville area is the best.
