Looking for southeast relocation ideas?

Charleston is a pretty booming city, especially in the tech space. I have some colleagues that moved down there (it's my company's HQ) and they like it. There's some MTB trails north of the city and Beaches and stuff. Housing is expensive but taxes are low. But, finding a good public school system isn't necessarily easy and private schools are at least around 6k minimum per child. I was looking at potentially moving down there, but the areas I could afford would require private schools and with that, cost of living becomes higher than nj. Have you thought about upstate NY? The Albany area can have a better cost of living, while still having jobs and quality of life.

Dave, have you been down there scoping out the areas?

Also, have you considered western VA? Harrisonburg or Roanoke? Not trying to sell you on them, but you may find them appealing.

Personally SC seems to be too much of a culture shock for me. I checked out Greenville and realized there's no way I could do it for that reason.

Now that I'm in front of a computer I can give you real advice if you want it. All of the reasons you stated are reasons we moved down here. Right now we haven't taken advantage of a lot of the perks with two children under 4, Being 2-3hrs from some awesome riding in Pisgah, mountain/gravel/road, it's hard to beat. The Charlotte trails are well maintained, not as technical but plentiful. They have some variety but still lack that Allamuchy/Sourlands/Chimney Rock feel. I guess that is what you give up for having epic stuff closer.

Summers are hot and rough at times, but it's part of the trade off. Hopefully you have a community pool, or a connection to a pool. Sometimes by 10am it's miserable.

Mecklenburg County (Charlotte proper) is not too good with schools, lots of the rich folks send their kids to private schools. Cabarrus County (where we live) on the east side of Charlotte is a way better school system. Our taxes are high at $2,913 a year.

Rock Hill/Fort Mill is another great area in SC that still keeps you in the Charlotte area, but enjoys some of the SC perks. That is really all I know about that area. Greenville is interesting location wise, the cycling scene is way bigger in Greenville I think.

^^^guy in the white is one of my college buddies - he is the one that lives on lk norman.
Didn't even notice until i looked closer.

But do they have a racing scene that needs a cheerleader/toe stepper?

No looking back for me. Clean air, beautiful mountains, awesome Mtb’ing, hiking, mellow people and the BEER!

What about the rain?
Has been raining during the week, but the weekends have been sunny. The weather works like this here it will rain the then all the clouds will blow out and we have beautiful clear blue skies. The weather is very mild here spring is already starting. Also up here in the mountains it’s not as hot as other part on N.C.
