Tymor

Was this before I was admiring your cross tires?

At the start of the second loop, just as you turned off the fire road onto the little climb, I was passing people on the outside of the trail and caught some rocks. Maybe cross tires weren't the best idea I've had😉 I'm very thankful I went out before the rain hit, that would've been nuts...

Nothing like the preride

Oh, how I wish this ride was on this past thursday when we pre rode it. It was fast and sooo fun flying over all the logs and rocks. Even the climbing was doable.

Alas, today is was not to be so, especially for the experts. The rain made it a balancing act. I practice my skills and my goal of not cramping on the 3rd lap. It took me 3 hours 17 minutes with the first at 55 minutes, 2nd at 1 hour, and the rest was third. I crashed at the end of my 2nd lap which caused me to bleed purfusly from my left elbow. I sprayed it with my waterbottle,....theory being,..if the bleeding didn't stop,..I wouldn't do the third lap.

More training for me,..cause it bleeding stopped so I continued. By the time I finished,...it was raining hard and the parking lot was empty except for a few podium racers. It was a good race that could have been better hadn't mother nature decided to water all the flowers.

One quick note: Whoever's decision it was to send all of sport 30-39 off together (instead of breaking it up like last race) needs their mountain bike race setup card destroyed. Must have been 50 of us, and it was a mess once we hit the singletrack. One bad pedal stroke and 30 dudes had to dismount. Not a good call.

Great write ups Ryan and Jess. You both really toughed it out, and in my opinion, that's what racing is all about. I know near the end of my second lap I thought real hard about dropping out, but then I hit a few fun sections, and that thought washed away. Yes the mud on the last lap was brutal and made my bike feel like 40lbs. By that point, I just rode harder to get to the finish to be done. This race is a good reminder to carefully plan my tire choice for Mt Snow. I have a feeling it is going to be another wet one up there :mad2: .

I have no idea, how I finished or what my time was, I spent too much time waiting to wash my bike, and getting cleaned up. Seven wet people and seven wet bikes in a car, makes a foggy ride home. Thanks Jess for buying me a chocolate ice cream cone for the ride home. Ummmm, that tasted sooo good. 🙂

Jelly

Jelly that is all I can say about that 3rd Lap in Expert. I pre-rode the course and had seen a sport rider eat it on a long root near the begining of the course. Me being an "expert" I said "That won't happen to me, but HAHA 3rd lap Jelly on the course and I went down hard on the same root. 😱 Forget the crazy downhills it's always the stuff you take for granted that bites you in the A55. Well, After my bike flew up and smacked me in the head I tried to fix my helmet and carry on.confused: It took awile to get my groove back, but I was able to hold it together and finish with a time of 2:01:46. Wednesday its off to the docters to have a look at my ribs. I might have tweaked something in that fall. OWCH! I have to say that the course was great and I really loved that section through the pines. "Sweetness"

Peace:😀

Some pics from NYCMTB-Peak Bikes 30-39 expert / pro photographer Nate Kraxberger...

This cabby backed into Antonio's truck right after he pulled up to our rendezvous point at 62nd & York.

Luckily, two cops watched the entire thing happen from across the street.

If you want to ride some time that would be cool. I was, like, breathing down your neck in the race and will eventually beat you; you can't win forever and you need to know that.

No one can win forever, even Lance. As far as riding goes, I'm thinking Lewis Morris on Wed or Thurs. My ribs still hurt. Owch!

A Nimrods tale

Oh.............. it rained.....

Lap one okay started to rain

Lap two it started getting "Dicey"
Everything turned to that thick, black grease, about 1:30, and then it got worse.

Lap three........... much worse. The bike was sideways in the axe grease (mud) most of the time, you looked for rocks to provide traction... its was tough... The logs became "tooth eaters". The roots.... spent allot of time with one leg unclipped moto style in the corners.

Oh boy.... The "Steeps" dropping into the creeks.. Double "Oh boy"... Lap one they where fun, steep, rock steps, you could change direction by tail whipping the bike as you decended. Lap two they where truly frightening. The third lap…………..every line was gone, just black gease smeared everywhere.. You didn't know what was root, grease mud or rock dropping in. It became Russian roulette as you dropped in, hoped you made a good choice. Some did, others did not. Towards the end A few of the climbs just about became unwalkable, forgot about riding them.

Then at the end of lap three, (Survival mode) we popped out of the woods into the last field, less then a mile from the finish line. The guy in front of me went down, = the grass was wet, then I went down. Figures, stayed up the whole time then get dumped at the end.

My bike has soooooooooooooooooooo much mud......... all the gears are fused together solid. The same with the front....

BTW = 3740 ft of climbing in (3 laps) 19.5 miles

It's more fun to chase than to be chased!

A Race to forget ...

My first lap I clocked at 1:03:21, not terrible on a hardtail. The start of the second lap while is was pedaling (pedaling even harder when Jim V was yelling at me) I felt something sticking me on the left calf. Long story short, the spring on my V brakes had popped out which caused my rear wheel to barely spin. This I didn't know but was losing time everywhere. I did not know what the hell the wire thing was untill it the nice pro guy doing his pre course ride had fixed it for me.Also thanks to CrossAddict, doing his pre ride, on my last lap, he kept me company while riding all alone in 6th place.

Fallgirl ... 🙁
