I've got the itch for another bike and after riding @gtluke 9zero7 for a week I don't know what to do.
Fat bike or 27.5 plus.
Leaning towards Fat bike.
Although I have no experience with 27.5 plus.

My current Pivot will work up to 2.8 inch tires. Cost for wheels and tires 1000 give or take. Plus rotors and cassette.

New fatty 2k at least for something aluminum and carbon fork..

Never rode 27.5+ how will it work in snow and Sandy hook beach riding.

Any input will be appreciated.[/USER]

Fat bike. If you even think of riding sand or snow, might as well go full fat. I'm sure you can also go much cheaper than a grand for some plus wheels for the Pivot if you want an alternative size, unless you need some bling.

While I agree with Jim, you really need to ask yourself if you will be riding the beach (to wet for trail) or snow (3" +) during those conditions........most do not.

That being said, 27+ will suck at the beach and snow above 3".

Always have high hopes of riding different places and terrain. Work and kids usually prevail. More often then not I'm home watching cop reruns.

You can ride a fat bike anywhere you can take a 27.5+, but not the other way around. Plus a fat bike on the dirt is a lot of fun.

Has anyone actually tried 27.5+ on a fat bike? Is it awesome? Adequate? Sucks? I ask because I never see anyone doing it although the option is there.

You already have other go-fast bikes, and you mention beach riding.... go fat IMO. And I don't think it's even a matter of how often you'll ride on sand, because it just takes that one opportunity where you wish you bought the fatty to make it worthwhile. Also opens the door to some fun fatbike races.

I think a lot of people get fatbikes for the ability to run 29er, 27.5+, etc, but in the end just keep riding fat when they realize it's fun and not slow/sluggish like they worried about.

Yeah, I tried but prefer fat to 27.5+ so just sold my 3rd wheelset. I had a 5", 4", and 27.5+ for a bit.

the 27.5+ were built for arizona and they did precisely what i wanted, 4/5" tires wouldve just pissed me off. i think theyre a great platform and like others have said the fatbike is the swiss army knife of bikes, 26x5, 26x4, 27.5x3, 29x3, 29x2, all doable with the right hubs

i cant really say ive had enough experience with fat tires in the snow, i had maybe 4 rides in snow last year that were actually rideable and didnt make me want to smash the bike into pieces and set it on fire. hopefully this winter i get to actually see what this whole snow riding thing is about. i have ridden on the beach tho and that was pretty cool, just zipping along without a care in the world

27.5+ probably wont be a huge lifechanging difference to be honest, if youre looking for new and different a full fatso will fit the bill.

do you need it? that all depends on how convincing you make your argument to your wife
