Running With the Foghorn Leghorn

Goals

You know, @jShort mentioned goals a few posts ago and I think he does hit something on the head. Most people go about goals in 1 of 2 ways:

1. Set a hard goal, tell nobody
2. Set an easy goal, tell everyone

I like to think that I just throw everything out there and yes, when you throw it out there and it does not work out, you need to reassess then you doubt and all that shit. Somehow I can get Utah to show up for races and for whatever reason he is like a robot. When I try to do it for myself it's always harder. I have had success in the past. I have also had failure. I will not call this a success run at cross but it's not a failure. I generally do not set hard & fast goals. But I was not as happy as I was hoping to do better.

So weight loss goal - partial pass (woke up the lowest weight so far this "reincarnation")
Racing goal - eh, C-minus?

Overall I'll take the grade. I know that racing is never going to be an A when you try to lose weight. But racing helps me focus and set me right. So they go hand in hand. I'm content with where I am. I would like to think I am doing it "more right" this time but who knows. We'll see how 2016 turns out.

But most people are not so open about their goals, or much of anything for that matter. I will say this. My goal next year is to get less fatter than Utah again. And to climb to that 5-6-7-ish realm in the NJ 40+ series. I will say that I don't think the top guys are on my radar but I think I can compete in the second tier if I get everything lined up right. My aim is to show up to cross season under 180 for next year. These are "toss shit in the air" goals since it's November 10th right now.

I Think That Is All

Starting tomorrow I have a batshit crazy 12 days of life ahead of me. I'll start an offseason blog-thread later this week or something. It's not going to be about training but about riding, maybe working on skills, promoting races & rides, laundry detergent, work, and various other things. I suppose a bit of training will sneak in here and there.

Maybe @pearl and I will actually be in the same place at the same time in the next few weeks.

Pictures

I know, I have been lax on pics lately. This is me at the line Sunday, telling everyone else in the front row that some guy behind me paid me to take out the whole lot of them.

See the bike in that pic? ZERO MECHANICALS THIS YEAR! That thing should get a supporting actor award for toting my ass around for a whole season without missing a beat.

Start working on next year's cross season now.

I mean - why stop trying to lose weight just because cross is over.

What happens now? You gain weight and do it all over again at some point next year?

Is Campos holding something visible only to him in his left hand?

You're aware, I assume, that I read everything you put up here, and I appreciate that you continue to do it.

You and I also did the same eleven cross events this year, and went 2-2 in the four 45+ races we did together. Fun stuff.

RE the weight thing: this book has some good insight on how your body processes different foods. It might be worth a look, even if you don't want to do the whole30 program. The biggest take-away is added sugar, it's presence in almost everything, and the conscious effort it takes to avoid it. Regardless, glad to hear you're making some progress there.

The top guys are in yer sights, @Norm. I'm still picking my jaw off the floor thinking about that Nittany ride three or four years ago. I think a piece of an old Soviet satellite hit yer bike at the start, you ran to the pits, forged another frame out of grass and scabs and rode back into the top ten? Remarkable stuff, though I might have some of the details wrong. But I stand by my conclusion: you come in loaded for bear, you're gonna get bear.
Also, WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING THE SEASON'S OVER? We've got a Solstice/Limestone weekend in December that's gonna be amazeballs. And I'm not just saying that because my 'lil company is underwriting the Women's prize money for the day at Solstice. (Equal payout FTW!) Supercross, NBX, West Chester, and something else... Oh, right. Nationals. And for those keeping score, Fifth St. CX still has four weeks to go. It's only CX season when you can't feel your hands. The rest of it is just unnatural.
If nothing else, come out and throw dirt-clods.

yeah, wtf? This is when it gets fun. SCCX this weekend in my backyard.

Nah, too far. I'll be at Kutztown and limestone for sure.
Curious how the fields will fill out for these races, Not sure if only the select vocal few are packing it in and it seems like everyone is done, or the cold has finally hit and people are done
