Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

huber was perfect this morning.

except for one (or was it two?) downed trees. which made me think of a poll question (but didnt bother): what will happen first? (1) MCPS actually removes the tree; (2) new "go-around" trail forms around the downed tree with old trail abandoned over time. I would go with (2) since (1) will never happen.

So cynical! At Hartshorne, someone (Park System? Rogue?) has already removed several of the new fallen trees. I think someone is reading our posts here and taking action. Squeaky wheel and stuff.

So cynical!

Just stating what I observe 😉

Hartshorne seems to get more attention than huber. If a tree blocks the path in huber I think their strategy is to let it rot in place. After a few years....Path is clear!!!

Or it becomes a feature. How do you think Many Log Run came to be? 😉

Hartshorne and huber both good. Some damp leaves and roots but otherwise good (didn't do rocky point so can't comment on it)

just crossing the fireroad about to head down the rooty, eroded Grand Tours section and up the trail comes two enduro motocross guys. Crazy to be there with all the hikers, kids, dogs, bikes. Said they knew it was wrong but complained about having no place to ride. Told them I'd put Hart/Huber at the top of no place to ride. I waited till they went down the fireroad to the park exit. They said they just got in but I saw their tracks for the next 20 minutes. Just crazy, especially on a weekend with nice weather.

While I was talking to them I took out my phone to let them know I was going to call cops/take pics and they got out of dodge. Didn't get any pics. It was just crazy seeing them blast up that tight rooty staircase climb, especially as I was about to bomb down it.

If you ever see this again call 732 577-8700. This number is the Monmouth Co. Radio room. They can dispatch police and rangers to the location. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do after the fact but if you see something like this while you are at the park call the number immediately so law enforcement can handle it.
