BIYF Winter 2015 Smack Down

Decided to try out the Minneakoning Trails. Knew it was going to be a bitch with no fattie. Got to the trails and let out what I thought was the correct amount of air. A few hundred feet in and I could barely pedal, look down and the front is flat, not enough Stan's... Damn. Put in a tube and kept going. Was really rough blazing my own path through the snow, and I was about to call it quits when I found some Quad tracks from yesterday (obviously hunters). Was icy as hell but at least ridable enough to get my "park" points.

Can't say it was all that enjoyable, but it was interesting to see what is right beside the roads you drive (or ride) everyday. I'll have to go back to check out for Motos.

1 pt - Ride
1 Pt - "park"
1 Pt - Consistency

The Minneakoning Trails

I cede the week. Yesterday wasn't much fun plus I need a day off. Ended up with over 10k feet vertical this week, all on the mountain bike. Gotta make sure that I wake up fresh for next week's push. Good job Jimmy, Kens, & Andy plus everyone else who keeps going out there day after day even though it's easier to stay inside.

This coming week could be "fun", where "fun" means a bit of a disaster. At least it looks pretty today.

Duke Island Park is seeing alot of action this year! most of the park was plowed, but there was enough snow on the canal path, and edge paths to have some fun. Explored the connector trails that will get me to manville - or back across the duke estate fields. Part of my master plan!

Found some old rail bed, and a really scary bridge that my foot went through on the eastern portion of this ride..

lots to explore back there.

Nevius Street Bridge in Raritan. Was retired a few years ago, and is now part of the park system.

Thompson Park (lincroft)

10 miles . 1+ hr. The snow/ slush was challenging at times even though it was mostly over paved trails with some mowed field edge.

2 pts (ride plus park)

heard there was minimal snow at Wharton so I headed south. Put in some decent saddle time knowing it may be a while before I get out on the dirt again.

My legs have been feeling constantly toasted since the smack down began. So my Sunday's are going to be pretty typical every week. Commute into the city and back out.

Well, that was the plan.. https://www.strava.com/activities/245825342 (0pt)

Checked the North pathway and same deal. If I just went back and forth between the 2 entrances for 45 minutes, does that count as a park?

Hopped back in the car and paid my $9.75 ez pass off peak hours toll and headed toward central park. One I got there, I was greeted by a marathon.

Runners were hogging up all the lanes although they were not supposed to. So I just took it easy and did a selfie:

It may have been the longest 45min of my life. Afterwards, I head downtown.

So that's 2 parks, 1 ride, 3 total for today.

Creep shot at coffee shop for Pat:

Started the day right! Sunrise Black Run ride with Rob G and Sean T. It was my first time there and I was surprised to see a few little climbs.

Afterwards I had some breakfast and wanted to ride more #biyf so hit GCC. It was icy and rooty as ever. Pretty sure like 2 people including me have ridden there since the sizzler race but it brought back good mems.

I got home and my 6yo was amped for a ride, so took him around the sand pits and fire roads in the neighborhood.

I dont really consider that one a #biyf ride, so Pat you can make the call. Soundz probably has this week locked up with or without it.

3 or 4 for the day and i'm happy with my week. This thaw shiz is killing my climbing goals for the month but that's how it goes.

I forgot to add, when I got home I stacked a half cord of wood and washed the bikes/cars (in that order) so I demand some bonus!

A ride is a ride is a ride. It should count imo. Looks like we tie unless AndyJ comes up big or Norm has been feeding us misinformation. Tempted to go out again but I think I prefer sleep. Let's see how things are looking at 11pm.

damn sure that riding with a kid, not on the driveway is a point.....

stacking wood, well, someone else needs to reward you for that!

Sandman - More swell left over than I thought. Did Frank tell you he SHOWERED with his fatbike after the beach the other day?

Pat - You will have to plan a #biyf epic day in march through all of the damn parks you have up there. 😀 Sounds like a fun day though.

Jimmy - Nice recap, you have to love the city.

Norm - meh

Cool. Yeah 11pm will see me "soundz" asleep. The only way I've been keeping my legs any kind of fresh is stepping up my sleep game. 5am comes fast.

I know this bridge but looking at it in this picture it is the exact same design as the one on Province Line Rd. in Crosswicks. I'm wonder the year on the two.

Good stuff these bridges!

we have 3 interesting ones in the area - the one in raritan, one in neshanic station, and one in 3 bridges...

Nevius st bridge 1886 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevius_Street_Bridge

Neshanic is different, 1896, it is a lenticular truss - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neshanic_Station,_New_Jersey

Higginsville bridge 1893 (actually 2 bridges)- http://www.historicbridges.org/bridges/browser/?bridgebrowser=newjersey/higginsville1/

found this one for crosswicks.
