Commuting

I just want to give a middle mother finger to the north west wind! You suck! 3 of the 4 days this week you destroyed my legs and ride home.

Yeah, it was hitting me pretty hard today also.
I hate the wind, but it makes you stronger (that is the 'glass half full' perspective).

took a little while off riding to work with daylight savings, short track races and tutoring...

back on the bike this morning...nice to hear the spring peepers, cheers from roosters and quacks from the geese. managed to shave a few minutes off my time too!

On my 5th straight week of commuting everyday thanks to the weather. With a sixth day in the woods on the weekend. Last 2 MTB rides were 30+. On my way home I finally hit a wall. I don't go too lightly with these commutes and when I want to there is always someone to chase it's just the nature of the beast in the big apple. Past 2 days I did my park loops concentrating on keeping a high cadence spin on my park loops. Working form and such. When I hit the greenway home in a head wind I was like WTF! I had this fatso on a skinny pass at cherry blossom I was like no way. Took him back only to have another fast dude go by and it was game over. Fatso eventually got me back and I faded into the wind. I had nothing in my tank and every inclined was dreadful.

I'm happy where I have gotten too with fitness but I need to put the blinders on and be more disciplined. I have to remember that I am not on the skinny wheels and to stop chasing the ones that are.

Took it light this week with SSaP this weekend. After 7 in a row and sundays death march with Woody it took all week for the legs to recover. I think I may have gone over the top. Tried to setup for a top 10 in sport but legs are just plain peanut butter. Maybe roll out a light DP easy tomorrow maybe not. Fucking wind was brutal in and out on the commute. I actually took a new way out to avoid the wind which was riverside dr. pathway. This was I am sure better then the being by the water. Had plenty of trees to protect until hitting open areas that basically push you backwards. Today was an exceptionally strong north west wind that makes you earn every inch esp over the GWB...

My legs weren't particularly good today either.

Pre ride with Jake Tue was like fuck, I think I blew them up like 2 weeks ago and can't find a comforts zone. I mentioned hitting a wall and I should have laid off with rest which I didn't. Oh well I know can make it to the beer 😀

All my weeks have been 100+ miles so my legs are well adjusted to hard rides and long weeks.

I know what you mean about hitting the wall doe...we both know once the gun goes off Sunday and we settle into our races we'll be fine. I just hope SSF is pleased with the bike parts you and Jake offered up

Always fun climbing 134 stairs in a dense, slippery wet fog while wearing carbon soled death boots with protrusions on the bottom that get stuck in the grates. While carrying a bike and a backpack.

North walkway on the GWB this week :drooling:

It sucks as it's now week 2 after being told it was only for last week. South side was open on saturday for all those city roadie pricks 😀. Seriously weekends on the GW are crazy. I purposely took riverside dr out saturday because greenway is worst then crossing midtown. Come to find out this is the secret roadie route where greenway is amateur ave on weekends...

What's the story with the Walkways? Both open?

I was incredibly confused as I was crossing the bridge this morning in my car and saw walkers on the north side. Please tell me the South side is still open and they're not planning on shutting it.

Riverside Dr is typically MUCH faster than the greenway on weekends. It's the way I go typically.

NYC commuting stats

Some interesting numbers here for 2009 census data

Overall #1 of the 244 communities ranked

NYC is first in number of commuters (but mid-pack in % of commuters), and first in miles of bike lanes and bike paths.

Tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be my first day commutng to work (12 miles each way). I have convinced about 8 of my co-workers to join me. Maybe this will start a trend...🙂
