how old were you then? Those skate references would have been from like maybe 86 or 87? You look about the same size you are now.

This is great, keep them coming.....Factory rob...how about some picks of you and Roger D from back in the day? 😉

I have some old Caper-on-a-bike photos somewhere...but in the mean time, this will have to do:

exactly what i was hoping for him lined up with the mx big boys and he was also how i got to those mount snow nationals back in the '90's...

Since we're including casts 'n stuff...this was the beginning of the end of my MX'ing...January 2, 1980. This is what happens when your bike decides to leave you when you're 10-15 ft in the air...

All those pics are dope stb22 but that 270x is sick! What trails are those? No need to reply if they are still running

Same pit, different day:

jshort, PortlandRider, soundz - great vintage stuff!

njracer - Love that Robinson!- red Z's and Uni stuff was the sh!t back then. I know we call those whips today but back then it was the kickout!

Blew the dust off of these moldie oldies:

Leary at my Backyard Trails - '86.

Can can X, Backyard Trails - '87. Peep the IH mower in the back (used for grading/raking the practice track), the wheelbarrow (that sucker carried some dirt), and the old tires lining the berm (tried to be official 🙄). BTW, after this session we headed over to Route 5 BMX and Skate in CT for the Powell Peralta show. Ah, the days...

My homies and me "training" for the MA State Championship race. Notice the practice starting gate in the background.

race_don_wakefield.jpg

15-16 Cruiser Moto at Wakefield, MA BMX. Notice the homemade "the Exploited" sticker and the water jump - 80's RADness!

don_eurotable_race.jpg

15X moto at Northampton, MA indoor. Yes, I'm throwing horns - took that from the fast as sh1t and Nat'l #1 Mike Crehan that I never could beat.

Me trying to be like Bob Haro (who was the incredible rider and artist and product designer that eventual became Haro bikes). I sweated Timmy Judge back then - thought it was awesome how he could style it up but still be quick on the track. It still bums me out how I messed up the helmet and goggles. I think I was 14 when I drew that.

I have some mid-school pics some place when I was riding XC stuff but riding BMX in the 80's for me were the glory days - just being a kid and having a good time riding bikes. I try to get that same feeling everyime I am on the pedals and hands on the bars and usually I get pretty close 😀

cool stuff don. i like that shot of you and your buddies in mid-air doing that handlebar reverse thing.

Great stuff Don. The trails in the 270 x-up pic were in York, PA. Those we my trails with one or two other peeps right next to the Harley Davidson plant, but we called them the AWI trails. The dirt piles are still there, but thats about it.

All fixed...no cast. They would eventually take the screws out and they let me keep them. Nice stuff, I mean way better quality than the stuff I get at mcmaster

You're lucky Joe! I also broke both shin bones...I was 8...growing up in Sussex County, I got to enjoy the "tar and chip" paving...I was flying down my road, on my banana seat/coaster brakes when I flew off of the bike.

Spent a week in the hospital and 11 weeks in casts (6 weeks toe-to-hip and 5 weeks knee-to-toe).

And I still went back for more!

Oddly enough, in all my MX'in and dirt biking, I never broke a bone. I ripped the crap out of cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and the like though...

Unusually dense/strong bone isn't necessarily a good thing...if I'd broken a few more bones and had a little less soft tissue damage back in the day, I wouldn't creak 'n pop and just plain hurt as much as I do now...
