Just read this in the MTBNJ Times:

Dustin Smith, Rumors; Retiring from Mountain Bike Racing?

Rumor has it that Dustin Smith, 2 time H2H champion, may be calling it quits after this weekends MTBNJ.com sponsored Stewart Super Six Pack.

Dustin states, “Hours at work are cutting into my training time”. As if no one else in the world works, this comes as a shock to the mountain biking community. Burning both ends of the candle seem to have been catching up to the aging Dustin Smith, who has won the H2H Championship title two years in a row. The plan for a third may be farther away then we thought. “I’ll see how I feel leading up to Lewis Morris, but his job is physical and tiring”. A three-peat is unheard of in the H2H series. This would be setting a new level of mountain biking excellence amongst the tri-state area.

When asked about the quality of riding time available now, “I don’t want to say for sure yet…Any riding time will be solo thanks to my hours. Sometimes I’ll be here late and can’t make it to group things.”

So what does this mean to the series race to this point? What doors will now be left open for up and coming riders to take the spotlight? Is Sunday the last time we will see Dustin racing a bicycle offroad? We will keep you updated if any new information comes through.

Its all about the money....Dustins agent is just playing hard ball with death row in the contract talks. He's probably going for some of big league "Norm Zurawski" type cash, sadly his client is still playing triple A ball.
 
I call bs... this is merely a marketing ploy to get the cycling world up in a tizzy (yeah I said 'tizzy') to draw more attention to the sport... the change of employment was a perfect cover for the back story - very carefully thought out... the whole thing is just crazy talk... of course he could just be setting the stage for comebacks 1-3... it wouldn't be the first time an athlete has done it... I guess we'll just have to wait for the news conference...

The year I won the championship it literally went right down to the last race since I broke my chain at tymor and finished 16th and then exploded at blue mountain and got 6th, so nothing is set in stone 2 races into the season.
 
James Pearl, you crack me up. Dustin is going to be too busy searching for gnar with his new fancy fork.
 
Judging from DS's facebook posts, that was the alcohol talking. Working long hours just means you get strapped to a trainer while the good wife is on. I have faith in Dustin, when the hangover wears off he'll recant everything he said.


Even I still haven't given up, even with the shit storm that is my live for the last 8 months and the fact I haven't touched the single speed since Waway, had the geared bike out twice, roadie out once.

Just wanted to follow up; This story was written following the recent outbreak of text message over the last hour.
 
That fork is borrowed and better be taken care of 😀... He just got the sissy sussy status but has not been verified yet...

You guys better stop this now. This man has been through enough his last few races and until this story is verified lets stop this verbal assault of his character.
His record speaks for itself. This story has no creditable reliable source's listed and I personal have been in contact with him and heard no mention of this. Stop the trash! Stop the trash!
