Fair Hill Race April 10

Today was my first Cat 1 Race, and as expected, I did pretty awful. Finished in like 33rd out of 39... Fun course as always, even if it is a roadie course. Anyways, here are some pictures I captured of some MTBNJers during the Sport Race,

"I couldn't shake the kid off"

As my first Cat 2 race I wasn't expecting much of myself. My main goal of the entire day was to finish and give it everything I had. Right off the start I managed to get in the top 4-5 girls.. I knew It wouldn't take long for someone with gears to pass me in the fields. I was passed by one person, which didn't really surprise me much so it never got in my head. My first lap was pretty steady, I was riding with girl with Colored Spokes and braid girl. Eventually I passed them and never saw either of them again. I latched on to the wheel of the next girl I saw.

Coming through for the second lap she introduced herself to me as Donna. For the whole second lap we stayed together and talked. It got to the point where I was cheering her on and letting men know "2 ladies on your left." On the last climb I saw her shift and let her know I would be passing her on the left. I didn't see her again. I pushed myself hard knowing the end was near, and ended up catching up to a girl in a red & white kit. She let me pass on the down hill, and then later past me on a flat stretch. I knew that might be my chance at a podium so I spun the crap out of my legs and caught her on the climb. Coming around the final turn I heard all my friends yelling how that might be 3rd place. She clicked her gears but I had too much left in me. Clenching my teeth I managed to hawk her down and finish 3 seconds before her. In the end I managed to get 2nd place out of 21 girls, and 3rd in women overall.

I'm excited for the rest of the season, and hope I can prove myself again next weekend at SSAP. Big thanks to the cheering sections, you guys don't know how much that helped!

Dude, Mandi looked fearless in the final sprint. F'n Tiger blood!

The girl with the colored spokes is my girlfriend. Great job out there today! I believe this may be you on the final climb.

Yo glancing are you theguy with the air 9 carbon on backorder?
Yes, that is me! Is that you that has one that I was talking too? Mine's running about 4 weeks late right now. When I ordered they had the black and white ones in stock, but stupidly I held out for an orange. I'm about a week away from ordering an XTC if I don't hear from Niner...

Yes that was me. I found it funny that me and the guy I was riding with were talking about my bike and then you joined. All while my back was cramped and I was dying. I actually bought an XTC frame and the opportunity to get this with the fork came along and I caved in. Niner is bad with inventory. If your frame gets pushed back anymore you should take a hard look at the XTC composite.

I'm not sure who else got to see it, but I want to congratulate pearl for sending all the parents at the finish line after their children as he was finishing. Bravo 🙂

Well in that case I got a picture of you too

It's a sweet bike and I hope she treats you well! From what I heard from my shop, XTC Composites are going to be hard to come by too... Today was my last race on my scandium Air, so maybe I'll just have to order an XTC too and take whichever one comes in first 😀

Hey, that's me! I was psyched I was passing some fellas on the climb. Thanks for posting the pic 🙂

For any one who did it, how'd it go? I had a really good first lap ... unfortunately, I needed two. I'd love to have an excuse for why it didn't work out, but the fact is it was all rider error. I pushed a little too hard coming one short, steep climb near the end of the first lap and felt my right leg go shaky. It made the second lap an adventure -- every time the trail turned upward, I was thinking, "Is this when it's going to give out?" It slowed me down, and then it finally did blow out on the one "big" climb of the day, which wasn't really a big climb at all. It locked up pretty bad and I had to limp up the second to last section of the climb. I did get sufficiently pissed enough, though, to force myself to ride the last section of it, which hurt like a mother. After that, I was just so damn angry at myself for blowing a top ten day that I forced myself to wince through the pain and pushed through the last mile. I came through the start finish after the first lap hanging in the top ten, and I lost at least six spots in that second, terrible lap. I'd love to say that it doesn't bother me, that a bad day is just a bad day, but that's bullshit. It DOES bother me. I felt good in the beginning. I did a dumbass thing and I paid for it in my finish position. I ended up 16th in the SS Open field. Sixteenth ... boo, 1speed!!!!!

Chainsaw owned my ass. Probably the worst day ever on a bike for me. The only DNF in the expert ss class. FTW

1speed- I think I saw you leaving. I was driving the Dodge with 2 bikes in the bed, 2 on the rack.

Thanks for hauling our sleep deprived asses down south for the day. It was a blast. Sorry about the crash, take your revenge at SSAP.

Plus you broke your shoe and left some skin on one of those wet roots. Dont forget to Get some sleep Saturday night

That was the finale to a shit day. I kind of knew something was up when the 34/18 was hard for me. Then I was dropping off the back 50 yards off the start. I had nothing at all. Big change from the week before at Waway. Next week will be different, hopefully.

How'd you know it was me? 😀😀

I do think I remember your truck, though -- if I'm right, I think I followed you on 95 for a while because you were the only one who was moving faster than sliding butter.
