I was at Waway yesterday and from Hemlock-n-load I can see the pipeline work has that place blasted. SAD!!!

Didnt get over to rattlesnake but remember seeing the flags in the fall and judging from the width of the track can't imagine anything is left...Shame

Big section of the switchback after the triple rock climb is gone. After that you have to climb up the rock face, think Jim calls it heart attack or some such thing. Splitrock has no issues at all. Top of Rattlesnake/Tombstone is passable, no way to Pines though.

Best place to cross the gasline is at the gasline bypass. Machines are sitting on top of the ridge at Cannistear heading into the park.

Yeah...it sucks. My biggest issue is not so much with the blocking of trails, but rather with how fugly my favorite park has become in those sections. The H2H course doesn't cross the gasline this year, and I'm told that everything will be cleared out well before the Bearscat, which does.

It will be clear by then, once they get there most of the stuff will be skidded out or ground up in hours.

Bearscat is going to hurt. Bad, real bad.

Super short notice!!!!!
Thats how I roll.....

I'll be at Waway today (4/6), be riding up to front gate around 3:30. If you have my # message me, If not, just show up...I'll be going slow(ish) cause I'm racing Sunday but may hammer a little if inspired....Fun will be had!!!

I don't ride race courses.....

I'm sure different rules apply to a Sport rider like myself and that Monte's slow(ish) is faster than I'll ever ride, but does this mean one should not have a hard effort within 4 days of a race?

pre-race week

does this mean one should not have a hard effort within 4 days of a race?

Everyone is different, but I would not ride hard for 4 days before an event. I normally ride at a light tempo 4-5 days before a big event, and do a light ride the day before with a few "openers" (intervals) just to get my heart rate up. Some races I train through and I'm not focused on the result as in the case this weekend as I head up to Battenkill. I still won't do a 5 hr. ride Saturday. (Maybe just 3.)😉

Well said....

Rest assured, I wouldn't send an open invite if I thought the pace would be to hot.
It did rain though, making the ride challenging in another way. Arizona desert has nothing on a wet Hemlock-N-Load....SWEET!

Stay tuned for more rides...I'll try to give more notice....

Look at these 2 psyching each other out. Good stuff.

Steve, I'd say not to worry too much about it where you're at right now. The big problem with being a sport rider is that if you try to be fresh for every race, you won't progress as fast as you might otherwise. Against conventional wisdom, when I was a sport rider I seemed to do the best when I did a solid tempo ride the Friday before a Sunday race. Now I don't do such things because it stopped working (or it never worked but it made me feel better).

The Friel approach would have you "sharpen" on the Tue & Thu before a race. So you go out and do something like 5 hard efforts of 90 seconds each 5 days before the race. 3 hard efforts 3 days before the race. Then the day before are the openers like Roger talks about. Everything else the week before is easy/rest. This has worked for me before but it may very well be that I ate enough Captain Crunch 2 weeks before the event that had more of an effect.

Another option is to sing Friday on the line to throw off your opponents. I'm going to try that this year.

Happy birthday Roger.

Normally you want to have your best race on race day. I can't tell you how many times I go look at a course on thursday and while walking a really tough climb (to save my legs) somebody comes flying through at mach 1....
These riders are often overheard saying "I don't understand, I turned blah blah blah lap in practice and was 5 minutes slower today????" Well???
Granted not every race is utmost importance and I would be lying if I said the rest all week format worked every time. Sometimes doing everything wrong gets good results also. I'd rather be lucky than good.

Bottom line. Go ride bike, when tired rest, then repete.

Yeah. I'm finding that how I feel the day before/of has no bearing on how well I do. In fact, when I feel really good I tend to race like shit. Maybe I'll start drinking the night before my races.

^^ That's how Ive always done it. Keep it Fast, Fun, and Fresh.

Norm, thanks for the B-day wishes and I look forward to hearing your 'rendition' of friday at SSAP this year.

BTW 34-16 IDH fo SSAP.😉
