I think someone needs to put some signs up on these trails. Maybe we could get Sean to carve the appropriate animal.

I'd chip in. Anyone else?

That Y stump is awesome to ride up. Though from what I hear it's not on the race course.
Sleeveless Joe has pictures of me riding that rock feature. Where is he....

Yea the stump is challenging, I wheelied and threw my bike into it and flew right through yesterday - I hope it's in the course 😀

Today...

will be my only opportunity to pre-ride.
I am incredibly directionally challenged, so unfortunately all this helpful narrative is lost on me.
I can probably be there by 3:30 or earlier and understand they might be marking out the course today and wanted to offer assistance if any is needed.
If not, will anybody who knows up from down and left from right be around?

We actually spent last weekend tighting up some of the trails...making better lines. The trees will stay where they are. Yeah they are tight but do-able. Now that the report says rain, this is going to be an ugly race.

Have fun

Rode two laps of the course yesterday as they were finishing marking it up- second lap we did in reverse as the track is way to easy in the race direction- the whole section of singletrack going around the parking area is downhill.

I saw the y log thing you were talking about- not sure how you are calling that challenging- :hmmm: prolly need to ride yellow trail more to get a perspective of tough sections.
have fun as its a total roadie race so all you lycra hard tailers should once again be in heaven.:drooling:
Hopefully the ringwood race is actually technical so you all have to shoulder your bikes and run around a little- always entertaining for technical riders to watch.

How's the marking? Is it obvious which direction the course actually runs in? Heading up in a bit.

Markings were great- minimal turns as the track just flows from one section to the next- They have big X signs for those dorectionally challenged that head in the wrong direction.

map

i know the course is marked, but was just wondering...is there a map of the trails?

Huh? Is there another Jungle Habitat that I'm not aware of? I am certainly not technically challenged and have ridden (and raced many courses). Maybe you missed some trails? Yeah there is some blacktop, but I would certainly not categorize this course as roadie (as in Lewis Morris). In fact, this course typically has one of the slowest avg speeds for all of the H2H courses.

hey guys- newbie here.

ive never ridden jungle habitat- Am I crazy to even consider racing it? would you guys call it a "technical" course? Do you think the rain will cause havoc?

I presume not being able to pre-ride means ill just go slower but im OK with that. I raced lewis morris back in july and am hoping for more of the same kinda of stuff, (but in the sport category.) Im jonesing for more racing before CX goes into full swing.

Yes, but you're with a mighty fine company of crazy people.

I'd say it has numerous technical features none of which are impossible but your skill level will determine how easy they are or aren't for you.
Do you think the rain will cause havoc?
If there's a lot of it and it starts early, ABSOLUTELY!! But we like havoc.

Ha ha ha ha ha hahahhahhahhahahahha!

So... by your definition what is technical?

based on my comprehension skills he mentions yellow trail - which I assume is the yellow trail which forks off from cannonball trail shortly into the ride from the cannonball trail head at the top of skyline - and I would agree that this is technical...I wish more XC race courses were like yellow trail but instead race courses do not reward anyone with decent technical skills but only reward riders with supreme fitness....I posted up after moochy that the amount of people that couldn't navigate a twig or prebble was ridiculous...and I stand by those comments, I am an average rider at very best technically but a lot of racers seem to have difficulty on fairly mundane features...however they seem content to get off their bikes and run through the woods...

The yellow trail is fun for sure. If you think you'd like to race on that try out the Terror of Teaberry race in Michaux. Take the top of skyline and multiply that by 100 and try and race it.

As far as JH it will be a tricky course because of the fact that it will be slower and tighter. Plus the sections that you can open up on have some deceiving corners that will allow you to blow through corners easily. Especially in the wet. The course will be a challenge for sure. Roadies will have their hands full.

I used to think like that

Until I was willing to put in the work to compete! It would be cool though if they had a separate skills section thru the toughest parts of each park

I had mentioned about a time penalty for putting a foot down in a rock garden - I was half serious! However, I am not trying to diminish the fitness and work that the top XC racers have ot put in to be competitive - but I do wish that courses were a little trickier so that the good technical riders had an advantage...

Yes they do have these type of races, it's called Downhill Racing!😀
