To all of my cycling friends,

I would like to make you aware of the fact that my apartment in Montclair was broken into during the day on Monday 3/9. These thieves stole from my apartment 2 high end bicycles (Litespeed Road & TREK Mountain Bike) as well as my digital camera. If anyone should happen to come across these bike please contact me or the Montclair PD.

It would have been less painful if they just ripped my heart right out of my chest!

Here are the details of each bike.

Litespeed – Tuscany 2003
The attached image of this bike shows the paint scheme of the frame exactly (half painted – half titanium) but all of the components have been upgraded since the original purchase in 2003.

I thank you all for any help you can provide with this.

If you are lucky, they (assuming more than one accomplice) will have more than two brain cells between them, but not enough to know any better, and try to push these on Ebay, Craigslist or to a pawn ship in PA (or elsewhere) knowing that they are valuable. I will keep a look out for them while searching listings for myself.

Wow I'm really sorry this has occurred. I'll keep an eye out hopefully someone will see them. Hope they catch the bastards and hang em by their toes!

Terrible news. I hope you find them fast.
Be sure to call or stop in your LBS and give them the heads up.
You never know what might come through their doors.

If they just took the bikes and camera and left the 810, I figure they knew exactly what they wanted... :hmmm:

Wow, that sucks. The scumbags probably knew you had those bikes in your apartment so they may be locals, even a neighbor. I'll keep an eye out for them. What are the sizes of the bikes?

Thanks for all the support.

I do have hope that they will pop up. In the mean time its back to my old Epic comp that for some reason they left behind. Plus I still have my cross bike at an undisclosed location.

Thankfully they didn't get into my guitars that are now much safer at an undisclosed location.

Sorry, man! Maybe you want to register the bikes here because a lot of times if people are offered a good deal (ie "hey, wanna buy these bikes cheap?") they will run the serial number before they jump on the deal.

Good advice about ebay - check often to see if your stuff is listed there.

I agree with the above comments this sounds like someone that knew not only what you had in your apartment, but had knowledge of the value of your bikes. I would keep an eye on anyone that has recently visited your apartment that you do not know "well" enough to remove from suspicion. (i.e. had a party recently and a friend brought a friend kind of a thing). I forwarded the info you gave to some buddies of mine that run ebay/craigslist buisnesses from home and they are trolling the net for them.

Sadly there are not many parties at casa de Taylor810.
I don’t want to cast any aspersions on people who work in the trades. I have great respect for true craftsmen. But my suspicions have to do with a group of contractors (carpenters, painters, HVAC, electricians) that were doing work on the HVAC systems in our building late last summer and through most of the fall. These guys were in and out of my place all the time while I was at work and knew exactly what I had there.

Obviously that was not a good time then for a heist but after a few months? Who knows?

Plus I gave the Montclair PD the serial numbers and that information goes into a national database.

Sorry this happened to you man...On a positive you inspired at least one bike owner to write down his serial numbers...I have always been one to say "It won't happen to me!"

I understand what you mean. We have working being done on our complex right now and I started locking my bikes up in my truck. I atleast know that it is alarmed and it goes with me to work. I really feel for you my friend. You have also taught me to write the serial #'s down.

Same here. Between me and my wife we have 6 bikes in our garage and I have a tendancy to leave the garage door open. I know the neighbors on my street won't dare take any of our bikes and everyone else know they belong to us but there are delivery trucks and service vehicles coming to our street all the time and kids for other neighborhoods coming to visit friends on my street. Those are the ones I'm concerned with.

That would be assuming they actually have balls that could fall off.

I wish a pox on these guys just like everyone else, and I hope you get your bikes back. But to be accurate...They walked into your house and took 2 of your high-end bikes in broad daylight. Takes some serious balls to pull off, no? I mean, sure they're dicks and all. But they do have balls that you can wish to fall off, I have to imagine.

Anyway, sorry to hear about this, ball-less thieves or not.
