In all of history, there isn't a single thing with a motor that someone hasn't tried to sup up.

We all know there is almost enforcement of any ebike related rules on trails considering there isn't even the man power to enforce anything in a park
I wasn't worried so much about enforcement on the trails, which I agree would be near non-existent. More about needing license and insurance to have one. As in, when you buy a car you need to have license and get insurance. So, when you buy an ebike...

Doesn't seem likely to happen due to the logistical nightmare for license and insurance but not impossible.

It's definitely coming. We get accidents in town almost daily now. Last week during my commute a young girl was killed walking through the Watchung Circle by a kid on a Surron.
There is no way my mom would let me have a suron as a kid. They are getting a lot of kids really hurt. They are wickedly fast. .

I rode one recently that was scary fast. Keep in mind I have ridden thousands of miles on single track on a motorcycle. This thing was terrifying fast and I am pretty experienced.

Unfortunately the public at large thinks an e-bike is a surons and a 20mph max, pedal assist. This won't end well

Surron isn't a class 3, it's not even in a class it's an electric dirtbike unless you meant something else. I can't believe some bike shops even work on them for liability sake just because they could be thought of as a moto shop now but money is money.
We won't touch them. Bike shops do not have the proper insurance to work on them and the liability needed to protect themselves.

We actually won't touch anything with an unknown drive unit.

Most of these E scooter/bike things have zero brakes. Full death traps.

None of the local shops will touch them and everyone is surprised. They are all fucked.

Specialized put out a blanket policy to work on no non-specialized ebikes period. I used to take them all in figuring there’s a massive market and it’s an easy way to make bank. They pay $50-$100 to have a flat tire repaired. Instead of spending half a day trying to find some clicking noise on a 20 year old Cannondale and then getting yelled at because they were charged $25 extra 😂

E-bike specific shops have been popping up down the hill from us and will be tripping over bags of money until the craze is done.

Well... I had to Google it to find out what a Surron is... and I'm not sure even the dumbest of politicians would confuse one of those for a pedal-assist e-bike. They are full-on electric dirt bikes and look like dirt bikes. I've seen one of them (or from a similar brand) on the trails in Pennypack. He pulled over to let us pass in the opposite direction but otherwise we didn't interact with him. I "think" the police are looking out for them - or just dirt bikes in general, since we see those as well from time to time. The police we've passed while riding e-bikes have barely acknowledged we were there.

I also see there is a Sur-Ron X brand, which looks a bit different than the Surron models and is a little more like a pedal bike, but is still an electric dirt bike and looks like one.

I think it's interesting that you can take 2 bikes, one has an engine and one is silent and people will have a fit over the engine one but the electric one is ok? Kids here will do wheelies around down on the paths and b ball court next to a police station and it's super cool and ok. Take a dirtbike and do the same thing and now something has to be done......Maybe half the issue is really about the noise. Before i built my first ebike i had a 2 stroke conversion and it felt more like i was on borrowed time using it because the attention. You really have to get within 20 feet to inspect a bike to really know.

I watched a video of a e unicycle video where the rider confronted someone who berated them. I offered my opinion that if they are doing something that's questionable stop bringing more attention to yourself. He asked me what laws he was breaking driving a 40mph e unicycle and i was quickly banned from their social space. I think when you are already bending rules, then you find it easier to bend other rules till eventually you treat the world as your backyard. The biggest risk you face riding a surron is getting hurt and second is getting yelled at by a power walker at the park, then all the way at the bottom is getting your bike taken away.

That's my take exactly. If you're riding in a group of e-bikers someone still needs to be the fastest.
I mean coming from the motocross world....EVERYONE was cheating...but of course giving your dirtbike 10 more horsepower was the easy part, using that 10 extra HP was another story. So now that there is ebike racing, if I was an ebike racer, I would expect nothing less. FFS, how many incidents of people doping in amateur racing do we hear about.....

My wife's work phone sends a text to her everytime there is a trauma at morristown.....the amount of street ebike incidents is mind blowing.

How can they not be? I shudder when I see kids on electric scooters with no helmets, even worse the e-bikes at even faster speeds.

It doesn't take much to all of a sudden to have your skull bouncing off the asphalt.
