Wildcat Ridge WMA Conditions

My wife and I were hiking at the hawk watch, so I hiked in quick to care of this on the drive out, but it was already gone.
Maybe it was your alternate ego 😉

There’s one down on revived righter mine close to meridian rd just before the switchbacks where a few others were cut last year. The proper authorities have been notified.

Tree down here:

Two more trees down reported on Oreland. Furthest supposedly 2/3 the way in from the Green Pond Rd end. Sorry, second hand info, no exact locations.

There were actually 3, now only 2. I got a smaller one right above the long entrance rock slab.

the other 2 are very rotten and about in the middle. This one is in a terrible spot:

And this one is hoppable but annoying:

Wagon Wheel, Odin's Ladder and Oreland were good this morning. Rail grade portion from Wildcat ridge to Oreland was a bit sloppy. No new trees other than pink line on fireroad. It's the top of a tree mixed with vines - some time with big loppers would do it. While there, green highlight sections need a trim.

Anyone want to claim responsibility for cutting down a perfectly live tree at the top of the first rock feature on Oreland trail??

If you’re heading down Oreland it’s at the top of the first rock feature off the jeep road, if you’re riding up Oreland it’s the last rock roll.

There was no need for this.

UPDATE: found out who was responsible and talked with them. They are someone approved to do trail work in this area and were up there to cut out a log that had been reported to have fallen across the trail.

Their reasoning was that when they hiked in they noticed that the tree looked to be leaning over much more than it had been in the past and the roots appeared to be pulling up so they decided to cut it down as a precaution. I have no reason to doubt this person's judgement and @trailhead agrees if the tree was beginning to fall and could cause a hazard then appropriate actions were taken.
