James Pearl Thinks Blogging is Dead

And? Would you go back? Would you let your mom stay there?

AFAF where the last F is Tom Bodett.
Second time staying there. Definitely was fine for arriving at 9:30pm, showering, sleeping, waking up and leaving.

I've become a fan of hotels that don't have breakfast. Keeps me from wasting my time looking through their breakfast options and settling on hoping they have a non-rotting banana to eat on the way to a place with real food.

Used to stay at the Motel 6 in Brattleboro when I was riding Mount Snow in my early 20's. Pretty clean, never had any issues. They had just renovated it though.

Looks like it's "Travelodge by Wyndham" now.

Yet we always check, just in case they happened to replace a nasty vat of scrambled “eggs” with an omelette station.

The Somali Pirates

Last Friday I got my last paycheck from the old org, an entire month plus the monthly bonus as the last step in the severance. Today, I took the 12 polo shirts I had amassed over the years and dropped them in the donation bin. I've had this thought that the clothing shipment will somehow make it to Somalia, and a dozen otherwise unmotivated people will get these shirts and form a gang based on the name: The Echostor Pirates. They will then go about procuring a boat, and hijacking ocean vessels for the next 10 years wearing these donated shirts. I suppose I could extend this and imagine the bad press they get from this event ultimately causes them to go under. But really, IDGAF what happens to them at this point.

Anyway, it is more likely they will wind up getting thrown away because they literally have no value.

I had today off. So it turns out I get 1 more day of getting paid to do nothing. It works for me. The Pico sign is almost done, but I need to put a few finishing touches on it. Solidly green, for sure. I also started painting the ceiling in the living room today, which is not very exciting.

Solo Chopping

This past weekend I started cutting my own hair. After however many years paying rock bottom prices for people to run a buzzer with a clip on it, i decided to buy my own and do it myself. I told D that I would do at least 2 of these, and that alone would justify the cost of the buzzer. Actually, 2 haircuts is more than this. I did this over the course of a few days, and I think it's come out well enough. I mean, let's be real here. My standard is fairly low. And I don't have a lot of hair to begin with.

I take this as a solid step towards retirement. This is the kind of shit, along with collecting cans and recycling them, that I should be doing to get ready. Next week maybe I'll buy a rocking chair and look for old shoes. Unfortunately, not many kids live in the neighborhood.

For the record, we can't retire yet. I just want to. I have already laid out the first ski trip we are going to do. It's a 6 week tour of the Rockies.

Also, I attached the Pico sign. It strongly resembles a J-E-T-S color scheme.

Or post a results pic.

I came across a selfie of a DIY buzzcut from the Covid days, it’s pretty laughable. But I’m also not into paying someone $35 for the “experience” of being spun around in a barber chair for 45 mins while they seeming trim 1 hair at a time. Especially not when I know it can be done in 10 mins or less.

I’m not much of a selfie guy.

The cheapest haircut is like Supercuts, $25 after tip? It’s nominally better than a flowbee.
It might be closer to $30 now. I usually go to Supercuts just because you can see the estimated wait on the app, and they cut my hair in 10 mins. 90% of the time it’s good enough, but sometimes that bad 10% happens on back to back cuts, and I get pissed and try someplace else. Hence the “experience” comment from a “real” barber shop. But in reality those places also suck just as bad, they just waste more of my time and money on their suckiness.

My wife has been doing mine for 20ish years... I couldn't do it myself if I tried...
Nice, sounds convenient. I wish I could get my wife to cut mine. I asked her to do my Covid buzzcut but she was too afraid to try it, even though no one else would see it.
