Camp Cromwell property

As a few of you who read my blog know, I have finished v1 of my yard ring trail so I am now looking to bring those highly crafted skills to Cromwell. I am starting with the Stop Sign Trail. As an adjacent thought to that, it will be renamed Stop Sign Trail in TF as opposed to Hump Trail. We will need to make that stop sign more permanent.

Thanks to @jdog for putting in the time to make this trail even better.

I am taking the long view here and spending what I consider the proper amount of time to groom/finish this to where I want it to be. I suspect this is going to take me a few months, but I'll be chipping away at it, foot by foot. If you are interested in helping please shoot me a message. This is slow, but very rewarding, work.

Today I did maybe 60 feet on that low-ish point dip a tad before the midpoint of the trail. Built up the berm, shaped it a bit more, raked off all the soft dirt and packed it in as best I could. Then I worked on the run-in to the jump after that. The first time I rode that finished product it was pretty solid. I know the lip on the jump is going to get ground to paste, especially with this dry weather. But it'll be a progression.

Rode that tonight, nicely groomed!

The lip of that new jump, really sends you.
Good stuff happening on stop sign 🛑
I added like 5 vertical feet to that berm such that it holds you in at speed.

Still learning all the time and working to the capability of that little digger.

This trail needs a one way designation asap.

I’m gonna put in some serious mini x time here soon and it will be decidedly a one direction trail.

You can climb it if you like, but just know that people will be moving down it in a hurry and in the air more than what you will otherwise see at CR.

Thanks @Normfor the finish work. I’ll brig the plate compactor over soon too so there isn’t as much soli loss.

That's some beautiful work! Can't wait to ride it

Did more work today on Stop Sign. This is the berm leading into a small jump that goes into the work I did last time. I’m working my way up the trail slowly.

This is basically being built entirely by hand so it’s going to take a bit to get it where I want but it’s way better now than it was when I got there.

Took the opportunity between the rain sessions today to get out to Cromwell and do more work. As you can see from the pic below, a great, great advantage is that there's a telephone pole here. Or...that I can drive to a spot 10 feet from where I want to work. I think the furthest this trail is from a spot you can park the car is maybe 100 feet. Maybe.

STB/Kevin texted me and suggested instead of a berm I may want an angled tread and I totally agree. That said, digging this stuff is work. With the rain, digging is far easier and I took 1.5 hours and did another 10 feet of the trail. I think what I did today is closer to what I want the whole turn to look like. Probably another 10 feet to go until I hit the drop/ish thing that sends you into this. I fixed that up a bit but that will need more work. I was basically trying to form mud with that.

Also you can see the stuff I did Monday held a lot of water today so I'll need to rework that when it dries out. That was far too wet to bother with.

Anyway, getting there, foot by foot.

No one can see here is this is basically the worst soil in the world

It's been a while since I've been in Cromwell and all the improvements and reroutes are awesome. The recent work on the "Stop Sign" trail is really nice too. That consistently wet area on the eastern most part of the loop was still muddy. I noticed an alternate trail is developing at the top of the turn to avoid it.

I tried out @rjr44 's route (Rjr44 route) on today's ride. A great alternative to the same old CCW loop.
