i was gonna recommend some patience, a roll of string, a fine scale and an angle guage . . . . . (i mean a flat driveway helps out a bit too)

Im slowly buying into the idea of our cars being shutdown remotely and limiting our movements.
Exactly, and that is just one of the many cons (though a pretty damn strong one) I have against getting one. I just don't see any useful benefits of having one.

Its been highlighted that carbon produced by a running vehicle has a negative impact on the environment. So people blindly make the change without asking how their new decision negatively impacts the environment.

Can they say none? Lol- we know that answer.

any connected car can be shut down. all of our on-star cars have it, so if they are stolen, they can be put in limp mode, and when stopped they won't restart.
I suspect they can be weaponized too - it has lane assist, so there is some sort of steering solenoid in there. already has automatic braking.....

any connected car

But not all. Can you say that right now about the electric cars being sold?

The “whole” approach will never stick with all of us because the vulnerability is understood.

I get looking into the other side of things Pat. Doing your due diligence as a prudent thinker. You think its right to say gas cars can’t be sold in certain states?

I'm not going to judge anyone for buying an EV because different people have different reasons for buying what they buy but don't try to preach or worse, force, me to buying one. I'm pretty much against everything about EVs at the moment. My brother has an EV and said I should get one. When I asked why and he really didn't have an answer other than it's cool. "Cool" is subjective and I really don't think it is but I'm not going to argue that point. However, my son loves my brother's car and thinks it is cool. Environmental impact? When have we ever done anything with how it impacts the environment in mind before the government, activists, and the media started pounding that in our heads while they don't practice it themselves? But for me it is more of a functional issue than an ideological issue.

Neither will I but i also wont do do do. Its a tremendous swing on an industry that impact the super majority and not doing these swings without such force and speed, it raises questions. A quick and swift transition is the goal. Move fast, establish new thinking and dont let em question too much about it.

Throw us off camber and we will seek solid ground. Im simply asking why we are off camber

The trickery

Remember when the environmentalists wanted us to switch over to Ethanol?
It burned a little a cleaner but to produce and transport it created more CO2 than regular gasoline.
Not to mention food (corn) was destroyed to produce it.

Years ago I worked at ITT weapons division. Some of the older BMW riders saw my DL650 and asked if I practiced riding on railroad tracks. I asked why and they said that they do, because one day it may be the only way out of some areas.
I think and hope that they are wrong.
Then again I guess the Covid lockdowns showed that nothing is normal and anything is possible. No tinfoil hat, just saying maybe those guys might be right someday.

Regardless, the environment is the only argument the EV advocates (and I use the word "advocate" lightly) have for getting one and that's a really weak one but that's not why I'm against EVs. Many are willing to put up with all the inconveniences associated with EV ownership for the privilege of paying more (sometimes a lot more) for a vehicle that's less functional but I'm not willing to put up with it which is why I'm against getting one for myself.

Here is a question - say you pith the connectivity in an EV, how long will it operate without checking-in?
Will it just stop, even tho it can be charged? Can it be charged?

Consider the weaponizing of traffic lights, tire pressure sensors, draw bridges & gates, electric doors.......

To your question - I believe groups of people have the right to make forward looking decisions.

I am not the future - kids are. Are they going to care what a car sounds like? Hell, they are just looking for a car to show up and take them somewhere.
Our cars were/are our freedom. BITD, turn 16.5, do drivers ed, take a test, then turn 17, drive. no 1 year probation license with restrictions on who is in the car.
You had to understand the systems in the car, cause the idiot light meant it was overheating, alternator stb, or the oil pressure was low. You knew you had a flat by the sound,
or someone beeping at you - and you actually rolled down the window and listened to them, rather than wondering wtf was wrong with this person.

It just means something different to "us" - the pecking order to cars in the HS parking lot.

I'm sure there will always be gear heads. Some in the ICE world. I'm betting some other open source car interface will allow
customization of EVs we just haven't thought of. Consider the new Carplay interfaces - you'll be able to skin the dash to your liking.
Or maybe throw a couple bucks at someone who is selling their configuration with your color scheme (they'll get 1099-K tho.)

If you really want (need) to go off-grid, an eMotorcycle is the way. Charge with a solar panel, or windmill.

For me the electric car is far more convenient. Even if I didn't care about the environment, I'd still have one.

Full disclosure... I was on the EV bandwagon for a bit. I had a deposit on a Tesla and when the ringing in my ears stopped from the hype smacking me in the head, I canceled it.

The irony is i said the “whole” approach wont work. If it does it wont be advantageous to the majority in the long term. So using my thinking against the oil industry that has run our vehicles for years, perhaps now is a good time to provide an alternative. But, To take such gross measures and approach that have been deployed as of recently because now you have access to the largest commodity humans have to offer (our thinking) is something i wont settle in on as ok.
