Is the inflated Bike market finally crashing?

Not sure if this has been posted prior, or been discussed in previous threads, but do you guys think the inflated used (especially used) and new bike markets are starting to deflate? I am starting to see price cuts but still feel that some prices need to come down a bit more. And do you think I should wait to buy a used bike until prices come down more or are the prices just fine the way they are currently?
Used bike prices have dropped like a rock. The pros closet is giving super low ball offers on trade ins and I’ve used that to gauge the appetite for used bikes.

Most shops (like ours) are overstocked to at least some degree. This will hurt the used market even more are new bike prices drop, the used market has to drop with it.

For example, we are now doing 20% off most bikes on the floor. One would assume that used bikes locally will have to sell for 20% less to keep the new/used valuation intact.

It’s also very clear to used bike shoppers at this point that the spec they want in a used bike sometimes is missing no matter the price.. Air fork, 1x, dropper, and tubeless are prized now in the used market as well as the new. If your used bike doesn’t have modern spec it’s value just dropped even further.

I'm so happy I sold my bikes to pros when I did. Love my Occam BTW :-)

Even SRAM:

That started back in August with their components dropping 30% in cost. Glad to see the prices are normalizing a bit from the over inflated market we have been dealing with.

Was thinking used (how much am I going to ride a gravel bike?) but it doesn't hurt to check! Thanks @jdog

This is what I said last summer when I got one and now I find myself looking at gravel routes every weekend before I decide if I will ride the road bike or load up the MTB.

Probably put over 2000 miles on it the first year i had it and I ride about 6000 a year.

It’s addictive !

I don't even own a road bike anymore.

I guess it depends on how convenient gravel roads are. Other than the Delaware Canal path on the PA side (which is not exactly close to me and is typically filled with inattentive walkers), there are no gravel roads near me. I just ride on the road which is why my Grade is set up mainly as a road bike. Every time I detour onto a gravel path, I think to myself, "YTF am I doing this? This is not fun."

I am definitely tempted some of the newer road bikes that can fit 32c tires. Definitely a more comfortable ride.

Exactly my stance. I guess I can see where it would be more fun on a dedicated gravel bike but currently it's the thing that I hate most about road riding (riding bad pavement that just beats you up) and the thing that I hate most about mountain bike riding (boring, life sucking gravel sections connecting trails) rolled into one. It also feels one step removed from a lot of XC riding back in the 90s, which I got my fill of back in the 90s.

(Still wouldn't mind demoing a current gravel bike and my wife wants one as her only bike, so my mind could certainly change).

You may be underestimating how absurdly capable Gravel Bikes are. Tarmac Pro SL7 is 17lbs with 28c tires, my Crux is 15lbs with 42c tires, just a hair over 14 with 32c road wheels. Unless you're doing crits or something you'll never notice the difference.

Sounds like you could use some grassel in your life.

Hmm. I've been thinking about adding a gravel bike in the mix, don't need any more temptation...

Covid demand is gone and now with all of these previous orders rolling in and Jerome Powell raising rates I’m sure prices will crash. Already seeing so much supply, shops dropping prices etc. If today’s CPI report comes in high you will probably see all assets crash just like crypto did.

I guess the question is if I'm mainly riding on the road - why? I have a gravel bike. I ridden it on gravel twice. Didn't really enjoy it either time. I'd rather have a road bike that is optimized for how I plan to ride it 99.9% of the time. As capable as new gravel bikes may be, it will still be a compromise compared to proper road bike when riding on the road.

WTF is "grassel"?
