Biggest loser

Not a pro here at all and I didn’t have the same experiences as you guys dropping weight mine came off a little more gradually with big breaks in between but to this day I still have stretch marks on my sides. But It makes me think if I may also be carrying a little flab around the middle too.

A doctor will be the one to say to you guys hey this flabby skin is a problem or not but in the end it’s not so much about “the look” it’s about being healthy and maintaining it.

Easy for me to say I know but compared to where you were at it’s a big accomplishment for only 10+ months.

Advise of the day. Pick a single positive behavior of yours that is inconsistent and compound that 7 days. If you reach that, then add two more days incrementally. Goal is 30.

But you have to give up one thing cause we cant keep adding without subtracting

I'm not too worried about "the look", health and fitness and maintaining both is my focus. I look and feel better than ever have as an "adult". I assume it will shrink more over time.

Looking back at the pictures of myself on Jan. 2 vs. the pictures I've taken weekly since, it's been a hell of a journey. Just wish I would have done something about it years ago. Watching my father deal with some health issues over the past couple of years was a big incentive too. And with the pandemic, it's pretty obvious that being healthy has never been more important.

And I've done exactly what I said I wasn't going to do, weight myself each day. But it's helped with my mindset a bit to get me back on track and stay there. The holidays and travel through the end of year are going to make it difficult.

Saying this in the most absolute position...
Provided there are no underlining or unknown conditions, heavy weight lifting properly will slow this down.

Muscle atrophy, particularly belly button up, seems inherent to cycling. At 47 years old, shave a couple of seconds off the climb for me if the trade is I am maintaining muscle. Its matters of body composition v body weight for regular Fred’s like us.

My days of heavy weight lifting are well in the rearview mirror at 54y/o. Light weight, high reps or HIIT is where I'm at now.

Schweet! We can agree consistency matters no matter the plan and compound movements over isolated movements.

Heavy vs high reps when i get older? Well, probably a mix of the two with the more heavy than high reps. Probably because im less likely to get hurt with heavy weights and the neurological component just isnt there with light weight.

I'm looking into gyms for this winter so I can go into next season with some lifting involved as well. I did the weight loss through diet and cycling alone this past year. I just didn't have the desire to get to the gym. I guess I just wanted to see if the weight loss was even possible. Now that I know it is possible, I'd like to see if I can help keep the weight off through doing some lifting and getting a bit stronger. I'm definitely not a gym rat. I'm thinking once or twice a week tops.

It's addicting and well worth it. I can't deal with all the personalities at the gym though so I built my own very well equiped home gym lol

I cancelled my gym membership, bought a set of Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and do circuits M/W/F from the program I'm following in my family room. Once the garage organization project is complete, will be moving exercise area there and adding a flat bench. There are extra credit workouts available to do in the gym, in addition to the circuits, but I can modify enough to do it at home.

That would probably be best as there not many excuses when the equipment is already at home. Plus that would save $$$ for the membership. I would utilize the garage as well but it's too damn cold in the winter. My basement is already stuffed with 2 bikes on the trainer that I don't use. I'm just looking to mix it up. I could actually do that running thing as well. Variety will help get through the winter.

My garage will be cold too. Thinking a space heater with a fan. Been running 3 days/wk to mix it up, this is week 5, it still sucks.

I'm having a beer night with a couple of buddies tonight. This is probably bad timing eh?
Guys camping trip over Veteran's Day weekend in VA. The emails going around about food have me scared. Will use 2 as cheat meals and pack my own for the rest.

I work right out of my garage. I prefer to work smaller muscles like chest and bi’s through compound movements.

Just no squats...Sorry @jimvreeland , its a dysfunctional movement all around. Deadlift is king and always will be 😜😜😜
