Even more controversial, is there a Central Jersey?Where does Northern NJ start?

Interesting read. As someone who frequently travels on NYCs bike lanes, I understand this all too well. I also think this will someday become a problem on the trails - if it’s not already. I’m all for ebikes, don’t get me wrong, but I highly suggest you read the article and imagine what our trails could be like in 5, 10, 20 years.

America's E-Bike Revolution Is in Trouble
America needs to sort out what it calls an e-bike.www.treehugger.com
Damn I should of read your reply first, then I could of saved a few wasted mins. This article is Road/Commuter Based, eMTB won't ever have these issues. This article also doesn't touch on the Legislation that's going through NYC and other cities to deal with Class2 "bikes" Those are where the carnage is right now.
I think the one aspect that could effect MTB are the throttle based e-bikes.This article is Road/Commuter Based, eMTB won't ever have these issues. Maybe bike lanes will need a speed limit. What Jim Said -
And i'll throw this out there. Why do we need 4,000lb vehicle capable of 100+mph that takes up 100sqft of space transporting 1 person around a city where the top speed
in most places is 30mph?
1 of the reasons is that there are other 4,000lb vehicles which require countermeasures.
If that isn't high on the personal security list - which if you've been to the city lately, there are many that it isn't,
go ahead and split lanes, swerve, blow through lights, turn on red (in either direction)
split pedestrians, ride on the sidewalk, cut through the parks.....
Maybe bike lanes will need a speed limit.
On a highway you have cars with a top speed of 80mph driving alongside cars with a top speed of 180mph.
Talk to me in 10 years when eMTB motors are the size of modern bottom brackets, batteries are tiny and the output is 1200w. I can already see bike manufacturers adding a "cruise" feature so you can "take the road to your favorite trail and leave the car at home." I especially like the point the writer makes about how Americans always want and need more. This article is Road/Commuter Based, eMTB won't ever have these issues. because people follow them so well in cars?
how many cars are on the road that top out at 80? jesus, even my full size truck isnt limited till over 100

In NYC... I don't see the pt of speed limits on the bike lane.... especially during weekday. Too much traffic and the risk of pedestrians popping out of nowhere. Not to mention potholes.Maybe bike lanes will need a speed limit.

This is also a thing - give an inch in the beginning, it just keeps creeping "up"
Maybe registration will be a thing for any higher class eBike?
We still have problems with moto on the trail. At least they can be heard.
The "thing" is technological advancement? Registration might be a good idea but in another 5 years many ebikes will be indistinguishable from analog bikes. Will be voluntarily register them? I doubt it.
