I think it all has to do with the size of your big brass ones. I used to ride a scwhinn Moab hardtail with V-brakes at ringwood way faster than I do anything on my nice 29" FS, now. Every day I get older, I get way more cautious than I used to be, maybe a few hard crashes has something to do with that.
