Zipp 1Zero HiTop Wheels

So I've been considering picking up a new wheelset for my Procaliber and the new 1Zero HiTop seem to tick all the boxes; lifetime warranty, lightweight, 30mm inner rim width. I'm not really in any rush to buy but I also doubt there will be any sales on them in the foreseeable future and I'm actually more concerned they may be hard to get ahold of if they become popular...

They sell two models the SW and S, the SW has a higher engagement and obviously lighter hub because despite the addition of ShockWiz it's still the lighter wheelset. I'm not really interested in ShockWiz though and the 170 gram weight savings isn't really enough to steer me onto the higher price tag. So I'm leaning towards the heavier S model. Too bad they don't offer a middle of the road price option in the form of an SL with the better hub but without ShockWiz.

Does anyone on here already have this wheelset? Or is anyone else considering purchasing?

Thoughts?

2 grand for a set of carbon wheels is just nonsense these days. Sure there are retailers and manufacturers still pricing them like that but there are myriad quality options for way less, even half of that in some avenues. No doubt someone will mention warranty, but is a warranty worth doubling the price of the wheels? Meh.

I like these a lot, but the tire wiz does seem overkill. That said, it might be nice to open the APP and see that you don't need to pump your tire.. or that you really do.

I have the prior Moto wheels on two bikes and i really like them. I cut out the rear hub and laced in a Vesper, which I much prefer over every hub made.

I looked on sram dealer site and there are not many of these to go around. Availability might be limited:

I am also testing a set of Forge and Bond wheels. They are really really good. Terrible name brand, but that's often the case with a brand focused on product quality vs marketing. https://forgeandbond.com/collections/mountain

We will be stocking both of these inthe spring.

AS for cost to value.. Look closely at these. They seem to be our best selling wheelset at $1399:

I can’t be happier than with the Ibis S28 with I9 hubs. A collaboration with Stans. They are wider than but very similar in feel to the valors.

I've purchased and happily run Light Bicycle wheels in the past but the price isn't really any cheaper than these Zipps once you throw on a high quality hub.

Thanks for all the input, I'll checkout those other options as well.

Curious if you can speak to Zipp's warranty after you do something like swap out the hub on a wheelset? I could always purchase the cheaper wheelset and then assuming I like them enough to upgrade the hubs down the road, rebuild them.

There's definitely other options out there in the same ballpark price wise. But most of them seem heavier than my current wheelset on paper and while I'm not looking to really cut weight, I definitely would try to avoid adding any.

I guess part of me also just really wants to try out a set of Zipps.

I did realize after re-reading the spec sheet that the claimed weight of the SW model is without the shockwiz installed. So, I imagine that once installed weight is very similar.

If I go the Zipp route I was also thinking of buying the SW model for the better hub and taking off the shockwiz right out of the box and selling them.....

FWIW I really like my Zipps 3Zero Motos. They're a bit heavier than traditional carbon wheels but they're more compliant.

So I wound up buying the wheels. BackCountry was doing 20% off and I managed to get another 8% back through active junky, so did the math and realized they're practically free and went for it. Probably won't get a ride on them for a few weeks as I have a few other things I want to do to the bike before I ride it again but I'm looking forward to taking them for a spin.

Just curious to see how you ended up liking those wheels?

Enjoying them so far. Not overly impressed with the hubs (maybe I should have gone the bougee route?) but they're good enough and I'm overall happy with the wheelset. They have nice flex/compliance, which is immediately noticeable and gives a nice ride quality along with improved traction. They feel fast and snappy, as a 1400-gram wheelset should.

Would buy again.

Thanks! Decided to go with a set of them as well. Glad to hear that you have been liking them.
