What have you done to your bike today?

transmission cranks have the "wide" dub spindle(new standard). Also the transmission chain rings only work on transmission cranks. You can use a transmission chain ring with old eagle chains. But you can't use the new transmission chain with old eagle chainrings. The new chain is not as wide as the old chain and does not fit nicely on the older chain ring which is a bit wider than transmission chianrings.

Unless some third party company develops a chainring that works with eagle cranksets but has the transmission teeth. I'm sure that is in the works, if not already available
Thanks! Yea thinking of getting a bike with the Eagle transmission. I've never tried Transmission. I am a SRAM hater but wouldn't mind giving it a fair shot. Albeit, I'd need to get rid of the stock 170mm cranks the kit comes with. Several vendors offer chainrings for Transmission but haven't seen Transmission specific aftermarket/shorter cranks.

I've seen people using regular chainrings with no issue but I haven't tried it yet.

Absolute black, Wolf tooth and garbaruk already have them... I'm sure they're all coming with one though.
Stupid question.. can you replace the Transmission cranks with any existing DUB cranks? Or is there a difference in size/spacing (Q factor??) in the new Transmission?

Yeah as long as you account for the wide dub bergs mentioned. You can get 6mm offset rings that'll bring it in the right chain line. I had to do the opposite for my HD6 that uses a 55mm chain ring to use my 5dev cranks.

I've been running the transmission with my old eagle ring since the transmission system was released. Hasn't missed a beat. I did order the proper ring, just never got around to installing it.
Glad it works, I've been running t-type cranks with old school eagle. If anyone needs a 32T t-type chain ring I have one to sell for cheap(XO style).

Installed 165mm cranks on the fatbike.

Post up your riding review. What did you ride previously, 170mm? I've been pondering a swap to 160's...
going from 175 to 165. I have been riding 165's on my main trail bike for a year. It feels different for the first ride but not like you lose any power, just feels different. You definitely will notice the improved ground clearance. shorter cranks are well worth it.

The link references a test that basically shows that while there's individual variance, most people won't lose power by going shorter than the standard 170/175. Also, I regularly switch between 165 and 175 bikes and never notice anything. My choice would be 165 max.

Your power is your power...
You lose mechanical advantage.
Does it matter? Maybe not.

If the power stroke is from 45 to 135 degrees, the perpendicular distance difference varies - I don't feel like doing the math, but it is smaller at the ends and max -6% ish at 90deg.

Not worrying about pedal strikes and the mental gain may be more important

Just finished a ton of work to my trail bike:

New parts:
  • 29x2.4 Forekaster V2 front (REALLY like this new Forekaster)
  • 2.4 Rekon rear
  • PNW Loam grips
  • Fidlock bottle holder/bottle (overrated, would not buy again)
  • Wolftooth light action dropper lever (I really like this over the original)
Parts swapped from my Jeffsy:
  • Nukeproof v2 wheels
  • PNW Dropper & Ergon SM Pro saddle
  • OneUp Carbon bars, Nukeproof stem
  • SLX 4 pot brakes & 203mm rotors
  • Nukeproof Sam Hill enduro pedals
  • AbsoluteBlack Oval chainring
  • GX AXS rear mech
Got to test everything at Raystown last week & worked phenomenally:

Not my bike. Wife's bike. Was so rusted and stiff I had to break 3 links with the chain tool to get it out. Water bottle bolts thankfully I used grease on them when installing the cages and although similarly rusted they came out cleanly.

Was concerned about all the bearings but everything seems OK including shifter/brake cables. Crank spins better than any other bike in the fleets.

Drove a few hours in rain & salt in February on the highway and then ignored the bike for 7 months...

Couple of hours in a crockpot full of wax and it'll be good as new.

Oddly bike is fine. I'm going to say it was the FSA low-end chain just completely rusted like it was below the ocean. Still it's going to get a bath before I put a new chain on.

Prepped the gravel bike for sale last weekend and listed on FBMP to start. I’ve got the opportunity to upgrade to a better new to me gravel bike that I could not pass up. so giving it a go to see what I can sell this for because I’ve been advised the rule is still one out and one in on the home front.

Had some good interest and new one person coming to see it later around 5-6 pm. If it doesn’t sell this weekend I’ll post it in the for sale section for your consideration.
