I don't know why I'm surprised a Dogfish Head "brown ale with pumpkin" would not taste like a brown ale nor have much of the spice flavor typical of pumpkin style beers.

It's basically a weak IPA. I don't really like IPAs...

I've thought about doing a brewery tour. With a bit of Google-fu, you can find regional brewery maps and create your own tour based one of those.

Having done a few self-organized winery tours, one trick is to space out the stops so they are at least 30 min. apart - preferably closer to an hour - to give yourself a chance to recover between tastings. If you slam like 3 stops close together, it can turn into a rough day.
