Wharton Conditions

suddenly wharton is the go to place and is getting all sorts of traffic. i would like to give a big shout out to slingblade_uhhuh kurt, and his crew for all of their hard work. hopefully all of these extra miles we are putting in this winter will continue come spring as tm hours. it's always good to give back.

Thanks Chris!
To follow up on Chris' suggestion, if you can't make it down to a Wharton Forest trail work day, check the JORBA calendar for a trail work day near you.

If you have the time for a drive, ride Belleplain Forest at least once during this winter. Belleplain usually has the same snow amounts as Wharton. With ten miles of MTB trails, plus some interesting bikes allowed trails, BSF is good fun.

Its a safe bet that the Wharton and Belleplain MTB trails would not be as good now, and as good as they will be next year, without JORBA. Joining or contributing helps more than you know.

Conditions this morning:
media

Powdery and easy to ride through.

Did a full lap of orange on the Mukluk today. Parks in good shape! Like ken said 2-3 inches of light powder... But when you get way out there, some drifts are 6-12 but they are few and far between.

Had some tracks to follow until orange branched off... The rest of the time I was breaking trail until orange hooked back up with blue.... Not a soul out there.... It was kind'a Zen like.

Never broke trail before.... Slower going than expected.

Snows coming....

I last rode there on Tuesday chris, it was snow covered and slow but rideable. I'm sure similar conditions now with a few more tracks on it. A fat bike had ridden in after me, saw the tracks as I was leaving.

Wharton isn't rideable. About 4-5 people rode in the slush yesterday and it's all frozen ruts now. I got out to white, and the fresh snow isn't crusty enough to be snowcrete, so it's just hell all around.

thanks for the update - will be checking in later in the week as I was supposed to lead a ride Sunday...

Any updates? Or anyone planning to ride today? Please post conditions as I need to make a call for a group ride Sunday. Based on the last conditions post, not looking to promising. Thanks!!!

More snow yesterday morning, but there was a fair amount of melting just after. Passed by yesterday afternoon but didn't think to check. Heard someone was headed out today, so ill update if i hear more. For what it's worth so far the JORBA night ride saturday was cancelled partially due to conditions.

What Kurt said.

thanks for the updates/posts. I am afraid of doing more damage to the trails - so I just cancelled my Sunday ride.

Until we have a good thaw you wont damage trails, but you also cant ride over the ruts. Its a mess.

Yeah, just heard an update from someone that tried to ride today and there it came across as crazily rutted and icy.

that was the report I got. Not fun and dangerous with icy ruts with snow over ice puddles making for a very unpleasant ride.
