Well I did it...

This is good. I have issues with cramping. I did a century in 2004 and had to stop for 15 minutes around mile 70 because of severe cramping. Those last 30 miles were terrible. My longest off-road distance has only been about 30 miles and that too was brutal at the end.

I have some serious training to do.:hmmm:

You need to find out how to feed your body on long events like that. On the bike I can't eat anything solid. Perpetuem by Hammer Nutrtion keeps me going all day but it's not for everyone.

OP, Fueling advice is really hard to listen to because I'm the exact opposite of Robson, I enjoy solid foods on really long rides. Chocolate Clif bars are delicious to me. When they get stuck in my teeth, I get to enjoy it even more. On XC races I can get away with Gu, but my stomach is a mess after it. But so easy to eat/process.

You really need to go out and kind of simulate and see what works for you. Godspeed!

I only ate Watermelon Gu Chomps last year at Bearscat and the Six Pack with Scratch in the bottles. I did Tuscobia on Peanut M&Ms.

Jdog I got a little of my breakfast back with the thought of sardines halfway through a race.

I finally finished that race 2 years ago after 2 failed attempts geared I managed pathetically SS rigid and swore that never again. I am still sticking to that until well that memory is forgotten. It is an awesome race and a total mind F***!

Come on Matty, I remember that day going up Rattlesnake with you and chit chatting a bit about are we gonna make it. We both did sooooooooo I am throwing this invite out to you for this year, Lets do it on the Fatties ! A 6 pack of your favorite beer on me if you do.

Lol that race is still ingrained too deep.

I love this event. This will be my third attempt to complete the 50. Two years ago I competed in the Bearscat sandwiched between a 3-day pool tournament for a chance to play in Vegas. Played pool, managed one lap of BS, went back to pool and won my match to go to Vegas (won on an 8-on-the-break of all things). So that was sweet, but mtb is my passion. Last year, pool was a non-factor so was able to focus on the BS. That is one tough course, even tho I know the trails well, it is tough. I made it with plenty of time left at the mile 38 cutoff, but my body said "No more!" It's a demanding endurance race, and this year I'm determined to complete it.

Great Race for sure....Singletrack is supperb....Best advice i could give as others would say too is get a few longs mtb rides in equivalent to this as well as finding the food that work best for you and keep the Gu for the end....Its a tough one but anyone can do it. I've done every one and look forward to the next and Living with type 1 Diabetes is a great challenge for me not to mention i ride SS. So don't think you can't finish it....we all can...Good luck

Solid words, you might have just pushed me over the edge to register.

Wow that's motivating for sure. Thank you.

I'm thinking about doing it on the fatty too. I never did this race but I know for a fact that with the fatty I have been able to ride a lot of technical/rocky stuff that I couldn't with my skinny bike, and much mire comfortable.

For endurance races, and even some of the H2H races, I take magnesium pills - 1 night before, 1 day of. Magnesium supposedly helps stave off cramping. I don't usually cramp, tho at Six Pack I cramped bad, so have been taking Magn since and so far so good.
