Wawayanda State Park Conditions

No ride today, but conditions were great for my 5 mile hike this morning. Coooold! 8 below without the wind chill.

There ARE some wet spots, mostly still frozen though. You can usually ride the sides of the trails hitting the leaves and staying out of the mud and water. A lot of these trails have their wet spots anytime of the year.
 
Today the PumpHouse Trail water crossing bridge was ankle deep in most sections, the Sitting Bear Trail stream crossing has slush, ice, and water flowing steady today. In the trail connection between South and Sitting Bear; it has the stream crossing that too has no path. Get creative, and careful to not get wet. Aside from this, some downfall has come. It'll get cleared swiftly, so until then ride with caution in your face.
 
That Pumphouse crossing is always a wild-card. That crossing provides for the way to make some bigger loops by getting out to the west of the lake. But, if you ride to it and its ankle deep in winter, that can really suck. If its summer, no biggie. Most of the time I manage to cross it or just do other loops when there has been recent rain/snow fall. There is a double-track near there I used to jump out to the road and then take the roads to re-enter at the west end of Cherry Ridge. Is there any other alternative to avoid cutting off that much of Pumphouse?
 
Nice ride today with Russell, I met him at the Fat Fondo Sunday and he asked me to show him some trails in Wayway.
So today was perfect! 27° snow and just over 8 miles on the fattys! Good job Russell! Had a great time.

Today I did the "double-track" you speak of to get to Wawayanda Rd and bypass the stream on Pumphouse. That is .6 mile through the woods to the road where you make a left and ride over to Cherry Ridge Rd. and re-enter the park to rejoin Pumphouse Trail.
That's the ONLY way around the flooded stream to continue the loop.

Nice short ride today, took unmarked trails to Banker Trail to Cherry Ridge.
Great conditions! 25° and everything is nicely frozen.
The woods is still snow and it looks great!

Arrived at Wawa at about 3:00. Rode out Dbl Pond to Plymouth Lane to Banker to road then back on Dbl Pond. 98% was firm, fast and mostly leaf covered. A few mushy spots especially leaving the boat house pkg lot headed down towards the furnace just before the wooden bridge. Torn up pretty good, best walked around. Beyond that, a few soft areas on Dbl Pnd easily walked around as none greater than 20 yds long. Plymouth Lane was firm and leaf covered all the way thru. Overall I give it a 2 1/2 - 3.0.
 
Was there Sunday as well. The thaw is a few weeks behind the other parks, I expect the next month will release all that water stored in the ground and it will be very soft and muddy.

@Kaleidopete All I see is skinny tire tracks. Not mine! 😀

But, really all in all, the conditions a couple days ago (3/4/16) were great and this was really the only area that there was noticeable impact. Too bad its in the most commonly walked area.

Actually if people were paying attention they could head to the edge and ride the heavy leaf boarder and save the trail,
it's plenty wide enough.
