Wawayanda State Park Conditions

Yep, beyond the Plymouth turn-off you get to a swampy area where, depending on the year, there are some skinnies to ride before you get to the horse pen/farmhouse. If no skinnies, you're getting wet. After that it's a dirt road back into the park. Plymouth is a much better and more fun route, and its junction with Double Pond isn't far from Hoeferlin.

Nice ride this morning on Wingdam trail, at least to the point where I turn around instead of carrying my bike on my back up the trail. Then it was back to Little Bear trail which I really like, pretty technical for me. I only had to put my feet down twice, once when my rear wheel spun on a big wet root and I just stopped, and then at the last hill when I ran out of steam. Great ride though. Then I hit a few unmarked trails but had to retreat due to blow downs. I only rode about 90 minutes today, but that's good for me as I'm working on my skills.

there are a few trees still down near the top of red dot (after nature jim's bridge). looks like people are cutting a bypass around one of the trees that's been down for a while. mojo looks good, hemlock looks good, turkey ridge is good. there's a tree down about halfway down tombstone

I just got back from a 5 mile loop. I did Double Pond to Red Dot, over Nature Jim's bridge (no, I didn't ride it) and across Cherry Ridge to Twin Bridges trail and back to Red Dot to the furnace. Those trails are in perfect condition! I had a great ride and my new Bluto fork performed amazingly! It made me feel like my skill level kicked up a few pegs. This was my first ride with the new fork even though I've had it for a week because a few weeks ago I tore my bicep muscle and needed a while to recover. No fall downs, but I did have to hike a bike in a few places because I'd run out of steam, like a guppy gasping for air. The scariest part came as I was returning on Red Dot and had my first ever encounter with an oncoming biker, YIKES! That was a shock, I've never met another rider on the trails. (Damn newbie!, right!). But these trails are dry and fast now.

I rode / walked / rode / walked/ rode Wingdam Trail and Sitting Bear, and Laurel trail today. There are 2 blow downs, one at the start of Wingdam, by the lake, and the other on Laurel trail by the cliffs. Two things I learned today, try and keep your mouth closed while riding, no matter how much air you need, because there are too many critters to avoid swallowing. While riding Sitting Bear trail, over confidence will send you to the ground. I intended to ride the Bearscat route, but after my crash I opted for the easier Laurel return.

I rode 9 miles through Way Way today and all these trails are in great shape,Iron Mountain, William Hoefherlien (the whole trail), Double Pond, even the muddy spots on Double Pond trail are good, rode right through.
dried up/muddiest spot

Rode about 15 miles through Way Way today. Blow downs on both Tomb Stone (near the top / pipeline) and on Pickle, near the beginning.

huge tree also down maybe a mile in on red dot. quite the bitch to get over it and be warned, it's surrounded by poison ivy 🙁

Conditions pretty good, even with all the rain. The Rhododendrons are out in bloom on a lot of the trails. There are some large washouts on Laurel trail up towards Wingdam.

Big blowdown on Iron Mt trail near where the Appalachian trail crosses it. I reported it to the superintendent. This was part of the Prolog of the Bearscat 50.

Spotted another nice wood turtle today.

Hopefully they leave that blowdown right where it is. Bearscat 50 good. Prolog not good.

There is also a big blow down like that at the top of Tombstone right before the pipeline and crossing to Pines. Was a bit tricky to get through it although I probably could've walked around.

Also very heavy over growth of prickers at top of Tombstone and Pines. Lots of standing water on Old Coal (?), connector road from Buddha area to Hemlock & Load. Everything else I rode was pretty good (trails north and west of Red Dot).
