Wawayanda Group Ride

This sounds great and I will try to make it up. Not sure where this parking lot is, but will try to figure it out in the next three weeks. Looks like off of Warwick Tpk just south of the NY border.
Yes, the main park entrance is off Warwick Tpk. in Hewitt, just before the NY border.
Place: Wawayanda State Park
Address: 885 Warwick Turnpike, Hewitt, NJ 07421
GPS Coordinates
41° 11’ 33.96” N 74° 25' 44.23" W
Date: Sunday, May 15
Time: 9:00 am
Length: About 15 miles for advanced riders.
there are dropout points to shorten the ride.

A lot of people won't make it to this ride due to the SSAP race. 🙁
Thanks, I didn't know about that.
But, there might not be a lot of single speed riders doing the Wayway ride anyway. The date isn't carved in granite either, it jus seemed to work for most people interested. Lets see what develops

Check the date - is the ride this Saturday 4/23 or 5/15?? This Saturday probably won't work for me, bike in shop.

Thanks Pete for organizing this ride. I think I will be in the faster group this time. I was slower than usual at six mile as I lost my top ring in the first 2 minutes of the ride.

May 15 for non SSaP racers
Thanks Pete for organizing.

Lake loop 100 minutes 9am start I can still probably make 1200 mass.

Schweet!

@Kaleidopete Thanks for organizing this. I think I may make this. It will be my first "group ride" ever, so I surely don't see myself leading it. I'm probably "medium paced", certainly not fast. So, I'd be more comfortable going slower than faster. I know Waway like the back of my hand including all the techy trails mentioned above and more. So, I can sweep, help add alternate routes, make sure people know where they are going if/when they want to bail, etc.

I'm putting this on my calendar, Pete. I'm certainly not suited for the "fast paced" group, might be for the "medium," and wouldn't mind moving at a more leisurely pace. I've ridden a little of Waway, but not out of this starting point, so this sounds like a great adventure!

I was hoping to see you here, I know your a great rider (modest too) with great knowledge of the park. Thanks for joining.

NO! that lake loop was just an example of my sorry ass riding it. I know people that do that ride in way less than an hour.
BUT, join in and have fun and bail out whenever it suits you. Look forward to seeing you there.

I have a conflict that morning - Post up some pics, and have a great loop!!

The ride is starting at William Hoeferlin and going South, and ending back at William Hoeferlin.
Yeah, the Iron Mountain around to William Hoeferlin was a cool down finish.
I don't know mojo and porcupine to add them into the ride. Here was my plan:

Starting at the main office parking lot take the William Hoeferlin trail South.
This brings you to Double Pond Tr.
Make a right and go a few hundred feet to Plymouth Lane Tr. on your left, look for the fender. Plymouth Lane takes you to Banker Tr.
Make a right here and ride to Cherry Ridge Tr.
Make a right again and ride to the first trail on your right, Red Dot Tr.
This takes you to the North end of Double Pond Tr.
Make a left, through the campground and up the road / hill past the furnace to the lake and dam. This is Wingdam Tr.,
Go left here and ride past the other dam, through the laurels to Sitting Bear Tr. on your right.
This will take you to South End Tr. on your right. South End will take you to Pumphouse Tr.
Make a right and ride to the end, you’ll see the West end gate parking area.
Make a right down the road, as you start downhill on the paved part look for Iron Mountain Tr. on your left.
Ride this and it comes to the beginning of William Hoeferlin Tr. as it veers right, if you went straight just exits the park by houses.
Coming up the double track section of William Hoeferlin it makes a sharp left onto a wide single track. The road you were on goes straight to the main paved road.
This single track of the W H Tr. brings you back to the parking lot. 15.25 miles.

Mojo and porcupine are at 0-3 banker and 0-4 via on your map. You can see porcupine much clearer on the Bearscat 50 course map as it is part of the loop going in the opposite direction from your planned loop

http://www.blackbearcycling.com/scat16/coursemap.shtml

Porcupine is two cells up and one left when looking at the above course map from the bottom right. Mojo swamp is one more cell to the left on the same map, its the little pinkish bit of trail off of cherry ridge(almost impossible to find the entrance coming from the banker/ferber circle direction)

The Jorba/Tom Hennigan map shows these trails in more detail and the trail names are easier to see as well.

For the advanced riders to pass on these two quality bits of singletrack in favor of loose fire road would be borderline criminal. Going in this direction and passing up the wall is a tough call as well but given the mileage already that would add additional distance so that could be saved for another trip. Both porcupine and mojo do not really add any mileage but both show how great and unique waway is. Mojo is something to see, the best part of it sits on a shelf below cherry ridge road and just above the swamp(the brown bit on the Jorba map) and has a slight pacific northwest feel to it, the trail has spongy pine needle bed for about a third of it that really has to be seen up close to appreciate.

I could help with where the trails are but would not be the right person to lead the advanced ride, while I ride here all the time it does not seem to help with my speed so it would be fairly boring for advanced riders to be trapped behind me.

Hope this helps, you can count me in if you keep the Sunday date, Saturdays I coach soccer.
