Welcome to board. Really great to have you here!!!!!!!!!

What is the statute that you are citing?
Unfortunately, I was up there today and saw some fancy new signs that said no biking up by the Water tower and by the Surprise Lake lot. It had a picture of a road bike, so it was unclear if it meant mountain bikes. 🙂

This was sent from @thegock. I looked at the citation it addresses, but the closest thing I can find was:
  1. Additional regulations; postings. The County Manager, through the Director of the Department of Public Safety, is hereby empowered to make such further rules and regulations pertaining to the safe operation of bicycles, as he may deem necessary, provided that they are not in conflict with any Ordinances or State law. Any rules so promulgated shall be conspicuously posted.
This is all of article IV: http://ucnj.org/parks-recreation/parks-regulations/

Me and @billy64 saw these signs today as well near one of the small parking lots on Skytop Drive as well as to the entrance to the Skytop picnic area across the street from the lot. They must have been put up this week as we didn't see them last week in those same areas. What a letdown to see those damn signs!

FYI: Mountain biking is illegal throughout Watchung Reservation at this time and for the foreseeable future. Please respect this.
If this is serious, then I think you are s bit misinformed.
If just trolling Mtb'ers, then well-played.

Not trolling. It is illegal as it has been all along. Others have been misinformed that the county had no legal standing. Please comply with the prohibition.

Hikeronly, can you please tell us who you are and the source of your statement? Are you a County Police Officer, County Employee, or some other person of official status?

I am only a hiker, and my sources are publicly accessible. Please cease and desist from biking on any and all trails in Watchung Reservation.

@hikeronly is correct. Watchung is still illegal to ride. I'm not sure why anyone believes the ban on mountain bikes has been lifted. Despite what people want to believe, no matter how much internet bullying people want to exhibit, none of that changes what the reality is.

@KenS has begged people to stop this nonsense. But people don't care about the greater good of biking in NJ. The fact that a local bike shop is openly promoting group rides here is just baffling to me. If the shops won't support what JORBA is doing then who the hell will?

I would say that the content of this thread is very possibly fueling the new signs being hung in the park. Or maybe this is all coincidence. And maybe the smoke emanating from my kitchen has nothing to do with the pot I left on the burner 8 hours ago. But maybe they're related.

Ride at your own risk of fine and/or confiscation.
Can you post the ordinance that states that bikes are subject to confiscation for riding on a trail? All I see is 115-14G which is a $30 fine for "operation of bicycles in designated areas". And if they start enforcing that they should start handing out tickets to everyone for not having their dog on a leash. No one has their dog on a leash.

When the cops would come into Mills they would ticket both bikers and dog off leash people. Pretty fair. I wonder if I would get 2 tickets?

Can they confiscate your dog if you hike with them off leash?

I suppose they can, especially if the walker has no leash in his or her possession. Perhaps they'd call in animal control. It would probably depend on the entirely of the circumstances. In any event, all dogs must be leashed in the Reservation.

It's Illegal ap Article 4 as goodvibe posted above.

Read Section G it's specific

G. Operation in designated areas. No person shall operate a bicycle on a roadway, except as a thoroughfare, and no person shall operate a bicycle upon any sidewalk, footpath, footbridge, or bridle path, except those that are specifically set aside and marked for bicycle use. No person shall operate a bicycle in such a manner as to impede vehicular traffic.

These adult miscreants have awakened a sleeping giant. No sense deleting any of it as it's already been printed out. Watchung Reservation is reserved for certain activities, and biking is not one of them. To paraphrase Mick Jagger, you can't get every trail that you want.
