Verizon Fios vs Cablevision

Did anyone switch over to Verizon Fios.. if so, pros/cons.

My wife said a Verizon sales person was in my neighborhood and if I switch over I'll save $50/month (triple play) service for 6months and then I'll save like $20/month over my current Cablevision/Optonline package there after.

Is it worth it?
any thoughts?

my folks have fios. when i visit, i am amazed with the selection. You can watch the local programs from the Democratic Republic of Congo if ya wanted to. If that doesnt suit you, there are 8 gospel channels. I'd say go with the fiber optic!

If you like the cable call Cablevision as they will probably match the price.

we have fios in my home. No hdtvs here, and I can say for a fact that I didn't notice a single bit of picture quality improvement after switching. I know they tout that as one of the reasons to switch. The internet connection is average, no better or worse than the optimum online it replaced. monthy bill is less, but I wish we could get rid of at least 60 channels and pay less per month. We around 30 spanish speaking channels, 50-60 music channels that dont even have video, 3 or more different espn, mtv, vh1, etc..

coverage

How wide is their coverage these days....don't think I can get the service by me yet.

I will say Cablevision has always had good internet service but their HD and channel selections suck! they have always been last to get new channels and still have the fewest HD channnels of any compnay...and no NFL network ARRGGGG!!!!

thanks for the comments..

We've decided it's not worth the switch. Plus my wife doesn't remember if the price quoted included HBO. So net/net I'd be paying around the same.
We've eliminated HBO on demand (never used) and some other option we've been charged when we got the DVR box so we're down another $15/mo. It pays to call I guess.

I, also, heard it's $40 to keep the same phone# when switching.

I like our internet/Tv/phone service.

thx again.

Well even though you made this decision...

Take this from someone who never watches TV. In the last 2 weeks, I've watched a total of about 1 hour of Mickey Mouse. I enjoy TV but I'm not TV-centric.

-We don't have HD sets but we both noticed the picture quality being better.
-Internet connection is great but really, any high-speed Internet connection is sufficient these days.
-Monthly bill is lower
-It never, and I mean never, goes out. Out last provider, Patriot-now-Comcast would drop once a month or so. This is very solid.

All in all, the switch was worth it so I don't have to call and have them reset the modem when the internet went out.

On the rare occasion when I do watch TV, I like the selection of channels.

I wish. Patriot was swallowed up by Comcast, and they take suck to a new level. When my internet went out because their underground cable broke a few months ago, it took 6 days just to get a technician to show up and check it out. Do you know what its like to live in a house with 2 teenagers who can't IM, email or do the facebook thing for almost a week? My wife even went to the repair depot in Hillsborough in person to plead our case, but we got some babble about how all service calls are scheduled out of Utah blah blah blah. FIOS isn't in my area yet but I will drop Comcast 10 seconds after they start offering it.

Yup, Comcast sucks...It actually is Cablevisions little sister...On the otherhand Cablevision is pretty good IMO...So Montgomery is locked into Comcast:(, so much for choices...For some reason I thought it was Cablevision out that way

Verizon DSL?

My family is looking to save some bills. My area does not offer good chinese channels except DTV. DTV and verizon work with each other for a bundle price. It will translate to like $10 more on the verizon bill and get rid of the comcast $65 bill. CRAZY!

Right now we have comcast internet that claims to be 10mb and above. Verizon only has DSL in my area that claims to be 7mb. Is anyone using this? How is it? I do plan to use a wireless router. Most of my house is wired with LAN except for my laptop.

I've been for a while pondering the jump from Comcast Digital/HD to FiOS, but I have to really sort out if it will save me any money.

Currently, I have one HD box, one digital non-HD box, and a basement TV with no box, and we get the internet through Comcast as well. It's around $150/month. No DVR.

We do our land line through Vonage for $9.99/month.

If I go to FiOS, I will have to pay for at least 3, if not 4, boxes, so I don't know what the additional boxes will add to the bill. I know they usually have some sort of $99/month deal for the first year or two, but I am assuming that is only for 1 or 2 TV boxes.

One of these days I might get off my ass and really look into this.

Internet through FIOS is great. Good speeds that are dedicated...so they don't go to shit when your neighbors start downloading their porn. I had .6 Mbps for like 3-4 weeks from cablevision compared to my promised 20 (it's not guaranteed, but anything less than like 6 is just theft). I bitched them out countless times and only after nearly having a stroke did they refund me the money. If I could jump ship to Fios I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Switched from Comcast to Fios

I moved last year and at my old house in Franklin Park I had Comcast. I had the cable, internet and phone from Comcast and didn't have HBO or any other movie channels and I had 1 dvr box.

I signed up for Fios when I moved. I got all three sevices from Verizon: cable, internet and phone. I've had it for about a year now and am very pleased. I have 1 home media dvr and 1 hd box and we subscribed to the extreme hd channels package. They offer a ton of hd channels. I pay the same with Verizon as I did with Comcast but I am getting way more HD channels, faster internet, and 2 cable boxes.

I would recommend Fios.

I consistently get 15 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up w/optonline. Then again, I live in a sparsely populated area, relatively speaking. Plus, the only time I throttle the network enough to where I'd really notice a clamp due to my neighbors is when I'm backing up this site....and I usually do this at a time most people wouldn't be downloading their porn.

It hasn't always been this way, but for the last few years it has been really good up here.
