Vehicle inspections

They tested the cars in front of me for emissions. They just slapped a sticker on my truck since it is a 17. Dealer never put a sticker on my window when I bought it. Cop said the dealers are lazy or morons. They are supposed to put a sticker on new cars even thought they don't need inspections for 5 years.
This is correct, five years on a new vehicle

I’ve passed with check engine light on. OBD scan showed 1 fault. My understanding at the time was you need 2 to fail.

You got lucky or the inspeciton attendent didn't care. Check Engine light = Fail. You can also fail from; pending CE code but no CE light, and OBD2 system "not ready" (meaning you reset the check engine code(s) but have not completed the required drive cycles. Drive cycles are whole separate world, and fall under continuous, and non-continuous readiness monitors. Continuous readiness monitors do not require drive cycles after reset, but non-continuous do, and drive cycles vary by manufacturer. There are certainly exceptions to all this, and little OBD items that may have fallen through the programming cracks. I personally have owned 1996 and 2003 vehicles that could have any code reset and immediately show OBD-readiness. Go figure...

You are right, it looks like the 1-2 rule applies to your vehicle's readiness after a reset, not faults.

"NJ DMV Inspection center allow 1 not ready reading if your car is year model 2001&up. (Except the catalytic system). If its older than 2001 then you can have 2 not ready reading. again except the catalytic system.)"

On more than 1 occasion, I have reset my system and drove around very carefully for ~70miles, went for an inspection and passed. If I drove around like a maniac the light came back on.

This is good news, my GMC has a cam position sensor code only, so maybe I can pass?

I have the same strategy with my 2003 M3.

This December I will try to get it inspected early in case the light comes on when I am literally at the Randolph inspection center and the check engine light comes on when I am idling and getting the ticket at the entrance gate.

As long as I warm up the engine before putting it in gear and drive it like an old man, the light stays off - until my lead foot wife slams through the gears.

Do it!! The Stage 2 tune comes with the pipe.
But I still have 60000+ more warranty miles before it becomes a shitbox. Was hoping to throw a DP on because loud noises, but apparently they pretty much all throw codes with or without o2 spacer/relocators.

yup all the new cars my family has bought since i can remember have come with white inspection stickers, the colored ones mean you actually went through afaik
I have a normal white new car inspection sticker one I bought my car out of state and had to go to the mvc
