Turntable

Edifiers are pretty much the best at that price range. What's not to like about them?
I feel they are base heavy, but that was easily adjustable.

Not loud enough is my issue. I'm actually really surprised about that.

Loud enough for general listening, not blasting music. Glad I didn't go for the 1280 and went with the 1700 at the very least.

I may try them with some louder inputs later, it's possible the line output from the turntable isn't very high?

Reading reviews on the Edifiers made me realize I just can't go crazy with this stuff. A gazillion people saying they're great, a bunch of people saying they are cheap junk since they aren't $1500.

I believe there's a few expert audio people here, but looking at your setup, it maybe your speaker placement. Play around with different spacing, toe-ins, etc. For example, I see there's a lot of open space to the right and left. Sometimes it's about aesthetics and that's understandable where you have the cabinet. MrsQ won't let me place my electrostatic speakers upstairs cause she thinks they're ugly. Though she doesn't mind these in the living room. Don't sound so great, but discreet.16831473823754376330617832587513.jpg

Currently kind of limited. Down the line I may be able to place the speakers on the other side of the room next to the couch, but I'm not drilling holes in the walls yet until we're a bit more settled. And to do that I'd really need to do an amp with passive speakers leaving the turntable in it's spot.

Also our living room isn't the room where the TV is in, so there isn't that central focal point to put speakers around either.

One of the reasons I was OK getting the Edifiers was I can re-use them with our TV or my office.

a tape at 15 IPS is better than 24 bits encoding at 192 khz?

Just cause analog claims it is continuous, vs digital being discrete doesn't mean better.
exceed the limits of an analog system and it is unpredictable.

It's the vinyl, not the $20k in equipment it is played on....

Which part is better? The wow or flutter? I'll take tape hiss, since they anakog master on tape it must be better.

by definition, the more sensitive the analog system is, the more it is subject to error -
unless you use a filter to remove the "unwanted" sounds - but wouldn't that be the same as..... 😳
