Traffic Tickets (complaint summons)

can't see an officer going out of his way to give a bicycle a ticket let alone two for no reason.
IDK , if I was a cop and came upon this, I'd start inventing reasons to write multiple tickets.

I know the intersection that the ticket was written at and I can only assume that there was a near miss or something that was unsafe to cause these tickets. With that being said - I grew up in West Milford - and after riding there a lot, it is one of the most unfriendly places to ride a bike. Horrible road conditions, bad drivers/anti-cyclist drivers, and not many shoulders. Be careful riding there and now be mindful of the cops too...

The prosecutor has a tremendous amount of leeway with motor vehicle summonses. But if you go in to court looking to battle, the prosecutor will probably step up to the challenge.

The audible device statute is clear. You have to have a bell. Easy to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

The far right as practicable is open to interpretation. I'm sure the prosecutor would work with a reasonable person to dismiss one of these summonses unless the cop asks the prosecutor to do otherwise.

I think this might be closer to the truth in this case as I find out more about it. It seems our offender is a local guy
that doesn't have a car or licence for DWI reasons. So now his only mode of transportation is the bicycle. He doesn't
own a helmet, likes to ride with his ear buds and music playing. Got a ticket last month for no lights, and has had seven
accidents with cars over the last two years. So he's not really your typical rider. There is always two sides to a story!

Isn't the best thing like a burnt out light on a car? Put one on, show proof, ticket dismissed?

39:4-11 Audible Signal.
A bicycle must be equipped with a bell or other audible device that can be heard at least 100 feet away, but not a siren or whistle.

would i win? no. probably not. would i fight it? yes. but, i admit, i'm a little bit of a bitch. 🙂

Would you win? No, because prosecutors don't like being challenged. I would be tempted to just start shouting "RING RING" as soon as the judge or prosecutor started talking about how I needed a bell.

did they catch you mid lane change and the computer is too stupid to realie it? looks like the left signal is on to me . . . (unless you got lucky with the lighting)

Mid lane change I guess. The issue is 63MPH in a posted 45MPH zone. Could have been WAY worse!

ahhh i missed that part, thought they were trying to get ya for not holding a lane.

yea $50 for 17 over isnt even a slap on the wrist.

Wait, I thought NJ changed the law, no more traffic cam reciprocity with other states. Did Gov. Dracula change it back?

No idea. All I know is photo radar cameras are illegal here and TN issued a civil complaint to me. If I didn't pay they couldn't issue a warrant but could do some sort of civil judgement.

I know NJ no longer accepts traffic cam tickets from NY, maybe the civil complaint is the way around the whole thing? I don't know, I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV. Paying $50 to make it go away is relatively painless though I'd say.
